King Cyrus: The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him. Ezra 1:2

The book of Ezra in the Bible gives us Cyrus as an example, of when men want to be true kings and not tyrants. A king, first of all, must promote the common good, healthy customs, and the compliance with the law, while the tyrant only promotes his own accumulation of money and power. A king, understood the concept in this sense, is a positive figure, while the tyrant is completely negative. The difference between these opposing political figures is due to the fact that men have a heart of flesh, that is, they fear God (constancy, firmness, devotion), or they live with a heart of stone; because as the Bible says, intentions are born from the heart.
After the exile of the Jewish people in Babylon, King Cyrus was a person inspired, guided and enlightened by God to fulfill a very clear mission in history. This is how the Bible points out the mission of this great king:
"The LORD moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:
´This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:
´The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.´´" Ezra 1:1-2.
Cyrus in the book of Ezra embodies the figure of a liberating Messiah, and his arrival had been anticipated by some prophets who had announced the end of the captivity in Babylon; Cyrus in simpler terms, is the figure of a benefactor of humanity.
The Persian people, unlike Assyrians and Babylonians, and perhaps this due to the cultural influence of the Zoroastrian religion, always showed benevolence towards the conquered peoples, and King Cyrus and his successors set an example of this.
Cyrus along with the devotion of Ruth, is one of the best examples in the old testament that the word of God reaches all men, and that all men are called to live according to the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) to be blessed.
