The ancient language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 1 - Part 1

in hebrew •  7 years ago  (edited)

steemit image.jpg

The full study is now on line covering the Alef - Beyt in detail @hebrew on Steemit.com. The vowels are marked in this bible and are designed to help avoid confusion on what a word is and how it is pronounced, as if there is not already enough of that in the interpretations globally. In modern spoken Hebrew, only children need the niqqud until they have the pronunciation memorized.

Here is a short reading of the first words in Genesis. Look for the consonant and a vowel below it, read the next consonant to see if there is a vowel (markings) under it or over it. Letters with a dot at the top left are pronounced consonant first then the "O" sound (as in to 'owe' somebody money) as in Elohim. The lamed has a dot near the top left.

  • Vowels are usually found under the letter
  • Sometimes the "O" sound is above the letter

My next Dtube post will feature a surprise guest reader. If you can follow along while he reads, you don't need my help any longer.

Please comment if you need me to read slower or more explanation of the order in which to read letters and vowel sounds. Or maybe I could read more quickly with better intonation. I am always open to ideas.

Wow thanks again @Hebrew for this very informative post :) Thank you for your perseverance and hard work to teach the people here about Ivrit, i cant imagine how much effort and time you put in this to help us understand the language easily .thanks man. :)

indexGUYUUYJ.png

This is a really good video! watched it even though I'm an Hebrew speaker from Israel and I can tell it can greatly help people struggling to learn Hebrew (which isn't an easy language to learn) - and it will give you some biblical knowledge too so all the better :)

I really like your accent - it's barely noticeable but kinda nice like I said in a previous post, makes the video really enjoyable :)

תודה רבה - מועיל מאוד, בהצלחה בהמשך סדרת הפרסומים בנושא!

Now anybody can learn Hebrew. Reading the Bible in French is how I learned to speak French. It is the best way to learn any language.

tnx for upvote

Thank you! As with my Spanish, I speak with very little accent after maintaining conversation in Spanish for hours. Hebrew is similar, though I only read it as I make my way through the Tanakh for the fifth time.

The first four in English

another classical video from mr. @hebrew ... i want to talk with you about language and many others.....how can i contact with you?

As I said I am only on line through decentralized platforms. I live a private life and am quite shy. I will have to get a skype or something. Many are asking.

I will contact you when I have a way to get in touch.

Well - if you would like to speak some Hebrew - reply to any of my comments/posts and I'll see it and contact you in discord so we can voice chat a bit :)

I am a religious person and I read the תנך only 1 time - you are an inspiration :) (I invested a lot of time in learning talmud - nowadays I learn medicine so I've got much less time for spiritual learning - hope to get back to more intense learning when the hard years are over - meanwhile I use the time I have in the semester breaks :)

I appreciate that. Thanks. I have had many offers to start speaking on skype and discord, but would have to create accounts on those. I have completely left the established system and would like to stay away from centralized anything - on the internet.

But I am gathering a list of people who have offered and I want to meet them if I travel - especially to Israel.

Encouraging words!

I have completely left the established system and would like to stay away from centralized anything

I hope to follow your example and am working toward it.

As I said I am only on line through decentralized platforms. I live a private life and am quite shy. I will have to get a skype or something. Many are asking.

I will contact you when I have a way to get in touch.

Yeah - I understood that :) and I completely respect and even impressed by your decision, it's not easy - being disconnected from centralized media - we all know that entering facebook regularly is addicting!
I admire that, good luck!

I appreciate your comments @kivsha

good work my friend 👍

I appreciate your comments @asafb2k

Thank you. 🙏

You're Most welcome @innerstellar

I love the Hebrew language. 😊

I've watched a 10 hours documentary on the Torah and in particular the hebrew alphavet and it's one of my favorite documentary ever.

This is all extracts from the documentary. There are 3 key things in this 30 minutes resume video. I've written a whole post about this video. The post is pretty awesome. I haven't published it yet cause I want to publish other stuff prior to this one but you might want to take a look at it.

This is pure genius. I can't wait to publish this post.

Thanks for sharing the video. Very cool that you are interested in it. Stan mentions a lot of Kabbalah in there and pretty high level concepts. I'm sure by now you've checked out the Meru Foundation. Aish Hatorah would interest you as well. It's mind blowing (literally beyond human comprehension) how every single letter in the Torah is there for a reason. All interconnected to form other words at certain intervals, and basically contains everything in this world within it before the world was even created . Also incredible that's its all entwined within words of a cohesive account of our history and laws that only God could have written. Anyway, nice to see some Torah on Steemit!

I listen to all sides of the Hebrew debates as well as most sides of the Christian ones (very hard to stomach those) and with a little bit of critical thinking, one can come up with a lot of truth. I will watch and you can expect a reaction.

@teamsteam ...... Incredible Video. It also looks like a Shofar.

You would be interested in the latest Translation of the Sefer ha Zohar (Book of Radiance) by Professor Daniel Matt. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0804747474/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_052BAb0W03K07

I have read the 1st 3 Volumes of the Zohar.

Whoever wrote the Torah was an absolute Genius Without a doubt.

2 - 200 - 1 - 300 - 10 - 400 ..... Bet Resh Aleph Shin Yod Teth = 913

בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית

Source: http://www.palmoni.net/gematria.htm

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." In Hebrew, this verse has seven words and 28 (7 × 4) letters. The number seven is repeated throughout the Bible as a number of perfection and completeness. For instance, there are seven feasts of Israel, seven good years and seven famine years interpreted in Pharaoh's dreams, seven years of service for each of Jacob's wives, seven lamps of the Menorah, seven trumpets, seven days' marching around Jericho, seven washings in the Jordan for Naaman, seven churches, seven candlesticks, seven seals, seven horns, seven eyes, seven stars, seven thunders, seven crowns, seven sprinklings of blood before the veil, seven Spirits of God, etc.

913 + 203 + 86 + 401 + 395 + 407 + 296 = 37 × 73

Excellent Video @teamsteem.

All life comes from the Hebrew Alpeh-Bet .... אב

This is why Yeshua (Jesus) always calls God his "Aleph-Bet" -

Usually translated as Father "AV" in Aramaic

Thank you for this biblical knowledge @hebrew and it will definitely help those seeking to know this language.

Nice post and an informative video bro thanks for sharing this valuable content with me

Great lesson! Can’t wait to learn more!

this was an excellent lesson once again nice post dear @hebrew :)

i learn this language from you, you are the great man, i learn many things from this post also, thanks for this useful post, have a nice day.

This is the Hebrew of Genesis the very beginning of the Bible. It is pronounced be-re-SHIYT ba-RA eh-lo-HIYM and is usually translated "In the beginning God created...."

The first word (reading right-to-left) is be-re-SHIYT. It is from the Hebrew root resh-aleph-shin, meaning "head, start, beginning," with the preposition bet on the front, meaning "in, on, at." So this word could be translated "in beginning" or "at start" or "at the head." The Hebrew name for the Jewish holiday Rosh HaShanah is from this same root, and means "head of the year" or "beginning of the year" -- Ha is the definite article "the" and Shanah is "year."

The second word is ba-RA, meaning create, shape or fashion. It is from the Hebrew word bet-resh-aleph.

The third word is eh-lo-HIYM, one of several names for God in the Hebrew Bible.

So a word-for-word translation might be "in-beginning created God

This is a genius of a work @hebrew keep making dtube videos :)

Modern Hebrew is the primary official language of the State of Israel. As of 2013, there are about 9 million Hebrew speakers worldwide

some history..........

Hebrew belongs to the Canaanite group of languages. In turn, the Canaanite languages are a branch of the Northwest Semitic family of languages.[16]

According to Avraham Ben-Yosef, Hebrew flourished as a spoken language in the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah during about 1200 to 586 BCE.[17] Scholars debate the degree to which Hebrew was a spoken vernacular in ancient times following the Babylonian exile, when the predominant international language in the region was Old Aramaic.

Hebrew was extinct as a colloquial language by Late Antiquity, but it continued to be used as a literary language and as the liturgical language of Judaism, evolving various dialects of literary Medieval Hebrew, until its revival as a spoken language in the late 19th century.[18][19]

Current status:

Modern Hebrew is the primary official language of the State of Israel. As of 2013, there are about 9 million Hebrew speakers worldwide,[53] of whom 7 million speak it fluently.[54][55][56]

Currently, 90% of Israeli Jews are proficient in Hebrew, and 70% are highly proficient.[57] Some 60% of Israeli Arabs are also proficient in Hebrew,[57] and 30% prefer speaking Hebrew over Arabic.[7] However, in 2013 Hebrew was the native language of only 49% of Israelis over the age of 20, with Russian, Arabic, French, English, Yiddish and Ladino being the native tongues of most of the rest. Some 26% of immigrants from Russia and 12% of Arabs reported speaking Hebrew poorly or not at all.[57][58]

Due to the current climate of globalization and Americanization, steps have been taken to keep Hebrew the primary language of use, and to prevent large-scale incorporation of English words into Hebrew vocabulary. The Academy of the Hebrew Language of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem currently invents about 2,000 new Hebrew words each year for modern words by finding an original Hebrew word that captures the meaning, as an alternative to incorporating more English words into Hebrew vocabulary. The Haifa municipality has banned officials from using English words in official documents, and is fighting to stop businesses from using only English signs to market their services.[59] In 2012, a Knesset bill for the preservation of the Hebrew language was proposed, which includes the stipulation that all signage in Israel must first and foremost be in Hebrew, as with all speeches by Israeli officials abroad. The bill's author, MK Akram Hasson, stated that the bill was proposed as a response to Hebrew "losing its prestige", and children incorporating more English words into their vocabulary.[60] Hebrew is also an official national minority language in Poland, since 6 January 2005.[61]

I live in a LatAm country and English is used in nearly every sentence as more new things are invented, they just get an English word attacned. un smoking, un living, un eSmart (phone or TV) etc.
I am glad that God's people will go on and get back to what was.

Finally it hits dtube and this is the day I was waiting for.

So thank you @hebrew and let this tutorial be the benchmark in dtube.

Thank you and Have a great day.
