Giving Thanks Before the Face of The Eternal

in hebrew •  6 years ago  (edited)

These are some personal items of silver acquired over several years. Searching and asking for each that was lacking, I have recently completed a set for use on Shabbat.

The cup has the words "Borey Pree HaGafen" (the one who creates fruit of the wine) at the top with grapes hanging below them. Each silver candle stand has a bunch of grapes in the lattice. The book cover has silver and gold plating along with a few gem stones.

The prayer book was printed in Israel in 1964 and contains more than twenty prayer services, including "the reading of the law". These are very long and the book is only two by three inches, making it difficult to use for lessons.

I will however teach you a morning prayer.

This is easily memorized in groups of three words.

Notice that these kinds of prayers focus on God's attributes and His actions in relation to us.

Traditional Interpretation:

I give thanks before You
living and eternal King
for You have returned my soul within me with compassion
great is your faith in me and your faithfulness to me.

The face of God.

The above meaning in English does not really convey the depth of meaning in some of the words. The third word contains p'ney-cha, which is "your face". The first of the "ten words" given to Moses states emphatically "...You shall have no other gods in My face"

When a King orders someone removed from his court, the last thing heard is, "You will not see my face again."

I see the first line of this prayer meaning that God is looking when we pray it. It could be understood...

  • I come before your throne to thank you
  • I give you thanks as you look down upon me
  • I thank you as I seek to seek your face

Another thing the prayer suggests is that our soul is experiencing dreams outside the body at night. I will not go into this, but a quick image search of the 'ethereal body dreaming' would suggest the same idea.

Hebrews knew this by faith centuries ago.

Shalom!

They are looking so saints

חג סוכות שמח לכולם

I was surprised to see the mid-week post, but it was timely. It's easy sometimes in modern religion to see going before God as a right, but it's important to remember that it's a privilege and that we can be cast from his presence and away from His face. As we struggle through things, we should remember not to take that face-to-face discussion for granted.

I was wondering about the phrase "You have returned my soul within me." It's an interesting concept and I'm glad you touched on it. I don't have comments on it now, but we'll see if that changes in the future.

Those silver pieces are beautiful. I'm an admirer of silver, but those pieces make many of the coins that I have look like trash. You got a beautiful set. :)

I have liked the morning prayer part most.
@hebrew

glad tosee you again and congratulation dtube is working again after hard fork.

Your complete personal items look great and I'm glad you can complete them.
About the prayer for the way it is explained, it is possible to understand that during the time we are praying we are asking our creator for permission to enter his throne since while we sleep our soul makes that trip to be before him, and I apologize, if I can not capture your main idea

Psalms 89.14: Justice and judgment
are the foundation of Your throne!
Kindness and faithfulness go before Your face.

Psalms 105.1-4: Give thanks to YAHWEH
Call in His Name!
Cause His deeds to be known among the peoples!
105:2 Sing to Him!
Sing praises to Him!
Speak about all His extraordinary acts!
105:3 Boast yourself in His set apart Name!
Let the heart rejoice of those seeking YAHWEH!
105:4 Seek YAHWEH and His strength!
Seek His face continually!

An important lesson....

Rev. 22.3-4 : And every curse will not exist any more. And the throne of YAHWEH and of The Lamb will be in it, and His servants will worship Him. 4 And they will see His Face.
