The ancient language of ibrit - Dalet and an extra called VavsteemCreated with Sketch.

in hebrew •  7 years ago  (edited)

Like the Alfabet, The letters in Hebrew are called the Alef - Beyt They are presented on my blog from bottom to the top so you can learn them order, then to read them right to left. You will see what the original "Bible" said and what the names meant as they went through the stories of old.

Here is Dalet: Symbolizing a Door. I am also adding a hard one called Vav. (it has a million functions.

Dalet is a consonant . It is also the number 4 when used as such.

  • The sound this letter makes when pronounced is just like a "D".

Second new letter today

The Vav can be a V sound, or a vowel sound saying "Oh" or "OO" ( ask in Poke or New).

In this case the Vav is a V sound, and the dot below it makes an "ee" soundafter the "vee".

Vav has a numerical value of 6 when used in math. (I skipped a letter yesterday to give you a word today)

The word “vav” represents a “hook”,“spear”, or “tent peg” in Hebrew, thus the meaning reminds us of its shape and this more directly connected to this meaning.

The word below is the name David - better pronounced in Hebrew and Dah-Veed.

d8b99d8f-1d0f-4a21-b731-2ffab2be8322.jpg

I highlighted the vowel pointings in blue this time .

I hope to add meaning to these little lessons each Shabbath as we go. Then we can read together with the vowel points in place and see how it all jives with English.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

I have to admit that the material is getting more complicated. It looks like we will need a lot of efforts to master it.

If children can speak it, then the can be learned. We adults need to open out minds a bit.

How right you said! Open mind is the most important thing in the knowledge of the new. Especially it concerns language. Language - the soul of the people, in order to know it, we must open our heart and mind.

You are the best @hebrew

maybe you can see posts from me, may be able to eliminate your fatigue in doing your job @hebrew.

Thanks for sharing. Didn't knew about Hebrew.

Thankyou for sharing @hebrew . . I follow next post . . 👍

Yesterday I was thinking that you will post next Shabbath, not this one.

Nice choice for the example with David. It has a lot of symbolism behind the name for the hebrews and the language.

By bringing the pronounciation to it we can see that the hebrew language is spoken a lot out of the troath. You bring a lot of meaning, also by doing this on Shabbath, when most of rabbies would say that non-Torah studies are forbbiden, but as you said in some previous post, you do this to be able to study the Old Testament, which has a lot in common with Torah ;)

I will bring pronunciation into it, but also I need to show the wave structure of reading - it is not simply left to right.
I am catching up in the hat an missed a Shabbat here or there. I hopt to bring it all together.

nice reply @hebrew, I still do not quite understand the writing, is it similar to the usual letters.

I think you do a tremendous job, hebrew is also very hard to pronounce as the whole sound building is different than English or Spanish (as I remember this are the languages you speak). The sounds coming out of the throat have a bigger influence.

Thank you very much @hebrew
Thanks

I have overtime become interested in jewish materials as they contain much wisdom. I also bought this:

I will be following you for more hebrew content.

@ogochukwu

Great! Thank you for following. I just started teaching - no way to type Hebrew text so I just write down what I want to show and snap a photo.

I hope to add better content once you can read the language. I don't converse in Hebrew, only read, pray and sing in it.

thank you for sharing... It is eunique :)

Oh I just realized you continued these series! Nice! Ok... Vav. V. ee? Vee. I will get it! :D

The stick is teh V and the dot below it is the 'ee'

When we get a few more leters I can show you how to follow a wave pattern to read words.

Thank you! Oh year, it would be so nice! I like the term you used: "wave pattern". It makes me want to learn more, and make my tongue surfing the language of ibrit!

I Really enjoying your every post.

Wow this is a great lesson again! This is an interesting things for me! Thanks for sharing such wonderful lesson with us! have a nice day...

When I read it "as it is written" (with all the vowels), I do pronounce it but only when alone and in prayer. El told us that we shall not treat his name as common. Many manuscripts have been found where all of the vowels are written and you will be able to read it. Good question!

WoW!!!!!!
Most valuable post you sharing. Thank you so much @hebrew

Most valuable post you sharing. Thank you so much @hebrew

thank you very much.... this is a great idea .i impress ... best of luck sir...,

Most excellent. I am learning Hebrew and Aramaic also so this is excellent that I have found you here on Steemit.

Why is it sometimes pronounced "Dovid"

Pronunciation can be fickle in all languages. How it looks in an English representation may be different from that of a Spanish representation.

The "Da" part of David would never be "o" as in "go" or "low" The Hebrew vowel under the Dalet is clearly pronounced as an "a" in Spanish "la", or the same sound as the "a" in Color"a"do (the state in America).

More people actually argue about the Vav having a W sound, but that is a different story.

Excellent - thanks.. will you be able to discuss the pronunciation of the holy name ? Yud heh vav -- am I allowed to print spell out letters in English ?

When I read it "as it is written" (with all the vowels), I do pronounce it but only when alone and in prayer. El told us that we shall not treat his name as common. Many manuscripts have been found where all of the vowels are written and you will be able to read it. Good question!

I would LOVE to know how to say it properly. Is there any way I can hear it and learn it ? Otherwise I will just call God as Jesus did "AVoon" in Aramaic.

Would Jesus have spoken in Hebrew or Aramaic when teaching the "Our Father" ?

I play and sing another version of that. None of the translations into English (of any other language) are translations, but rather interpretations. You will see that when we get to larger sections of the interlinear Tanakh I use.

Awesome . Do you ever share your singing on YouTube etc.. I would love to listen and Subscribe. I often need to hear the spoken word or singing to truly absorb the sounds

I listen to music in Hebrew and I know a few of the prayers without opening a book. I would have to open an account for audio in order to do something on line. Here is one account I follow for her music.

Her talks (Shuv Show) are awesome, but she doesn't make enough of them.

Excellent - thanks.. will you be able to discuss the pronunciation of the holy name ? Yud heh vav -- am I allowed to print spell out letters in English ?

Oh I just realized you continued these series! Nice! Ok... Vav. V. ee? Vee. I will get it! :D

it was so valuable indeed too much to learn still for me i hope to learn many more things from the ancient language :)

Very interesting))) My mother went to a Jewish school as a child. I will ask her wherever possible how it was taught)) It would be interesting to read about various holidays and customs.))))

@hebrew I want to see your next post in order to add to my knowledge, your posts always be the best ..

my second lesson it was and it was good once again thanks for round marking the vowel there with blue :)

I learn something new from your wonderful posts! I wish I could speak ibrit - it hides so much secrets and surprises inside I would never know without your lessons here

after reading your post i decided to search more on hebrew language & how it originated. but, accidentally i have found september 30 was the day of 'yom kippur' known as 'the day of atonement'. the holiest day of the year according to the judaism. therefore, i wish you in hebrew 'shalom aleikhem' - שָׁלוֹם עֲלֵיכֶם
apologies, if i made mistakes. i just started my learning of hebrew language via your articles :)

resteemia

Many Arabic words are derived from Hebrew, which proves that the Jews lived long with the Arabs, and that our two languages are very close.
In fact we lived side by side without serious problems, unfortunately this is not the case today and it is a pity.
I hope that in the future all this animosity will be reabsorbed and we will be able to live in peace with our very close cousins.

I just started teaching - no way to type Hebrew text so I just write down what I want to show and snap a photo.

One of Judaism's great figures is the man called Moshe Rabbenu ('Moses our teacher') in Hebrew. The first five books of the Bible are traditionally ascribed to him. Moses is the channel between God and the Hebrews, through whom the Hebrews received a basic charter for living as God's people.

When I read it "as it is written" (with all the vowels), I do pronounce it but only when alone and in prayer. El told us that we shall not treat his name as common. Many manuscripts have been found where all of the vowels are written and you will be able to read it. Good question!
