The ancient language of ivrit ( עברית ) - Shin

in hebrew •  7 years ago

Like the Alphabet, The letters in Hebrew are called the Alef - Beyt and they are presented on my blog from bottom to the top so you can learn them order, then to read them right to left. You will see what the original "Bible" said and what the names meant as they went through the stories of old.

Here is Shin: Symbolizing a tooth of ivory, or flames licking up. Both in the consumption sense.

The word "shen" is the word for tooth. The word "esh" means fire (Deut. 9:3) literally, a consuming fire.

It is the twenty-first letter. It is a consonant . It is also the number 300

The pronunciation depends on where the dot is:

  • if on the left, pronounce it like "s"
  • if on the right, pronounce it like "sh"

Here is a word you must know...

Asher means "that" or "which"

Most famous in a phrase everyone knows. Moses asked "What am I to tell them when they ask who sent me?"

"Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh (I am/will be that I am/will be)"

And then, of course, we have Jacob's name. The nation:

(note the position of the dot, and the pronunciation difference of the two words)

Where we are so far?

source

Only one more letter you are done! Can you remember the pronunciation of all the previous letters?

Let's also start studying our vowels. There are five sounds for them.

Here is a chart.

  • the square represents any letter.
  • the vowels are positioned as they would be in a written word.
  • there are five lines of vowels - five sounds

On the left a word that contains the vowel sound

00feddfc-2f5c-4661-a317-e02fcab6bea7.jpg

On the right a representation of that sound.

They are nearly the same as in Spanish and in the same order!

I have to say that there are slight differences - one might be a little longer than the one next to it, but the sound is the same. There are also combinations that may extend the sound of a vowel. I will leave this chart on the next seven lessons as we go through more letters.

We will soon be reading so get your Hebrew Bible soon! Click here to obtain the book we will using in a few short weeks. It is a free download - or browser usable

Thanks for taking the time to read.

install the compatible operating system or latest version

Good morning. I sent it to a friend, who is trying to upload the song right now. In 3gp format, DSound said to use wav or mp3. He is trying again but it seems stuck as mine was.

As for soundcloud and youtube, I really wanted to get away from those rather than sign up for them.

This is a really good lesson! I’m going to try to draw this one.

Salvation : Yeshua Yud- Shin- Vav - Ayin

Awesome. What is the meaning of each letter then .... hand fire nail eye ?

nice work sir

The Priestly Blessing of the Cohen ....

Live Long and Prosper ...

That is awesome. Captain Kirk (Shatner) is a member of the Tribe also.

They must have been looking for the World to come ....

To Boldly go .... Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Following an early expedition to Newfoundland, Captain James Cook declared that he intended to go not only "... farther than any man has been before me, but as far as I think it is possible for a man to go". Cook's most famous ship, the Endeavour, lent its name to the last-produced of the space shuttles, much as the Star Trek starship Enterprise lent its name to the program's test craft.

And Canadian. (The Captain of the Enterprise)

@hebrew - Sir thanks to you today I learn SHIN... Without your wonderful learning styles this is impossible to learn Sir... Keep this good work up & God bless you Sir...

The priests perform what is called the nesiat kapayim or the “Priestly Blessing”, that accompanies the prayer service. The Levites use two hands with the thumbs touching and fingers paired and split, and extended outward for the Shin gesture forming the letter Shin (שׁ), an emblem for Shaddai, "Almighty [God]" which can be seen in the image below.
This ancient hand sign of the Levites was made famous in modern times during the 1960's-70's when the TV cult classic called StarTrek with one of the lead Jewish actors, Leonard Nimoy who played the pointed ear half human and half Vulcan named Spock...

Hello MY Dear Fiend @hebrew ,, How are you?
Hebrew Notable features
Writing system type: Abjad
Writing Direction: horizontal line left to right
Number of letters: 22 consonants, theoretical ultimate characters and diacritics
Used to write: Hebrew, Judeo-Arabic, Ladino, Jesus and many other Jewish languages.
Some letters (kaffe, mem, salt, fee and treble) are a final form (sofit), which is used when the word ends.
In Hebrew there is no separate number, instead the standard Western numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) are commonly used. However in some situations, Hebrew letters are used to represent numbers. For example, on weekdays, for graduate dates in Hebrew calendars and schools. The numeric values of the letters are shown below.
Alef, vav, and yod short vowels that can be indicated by long vowel letters are generally not identified, except for books, poems and books for children and foreign students.

Awesome and excellent language . the grate Hebrew letter of Shin .
The letter RESH holds the value of two hundred in the numerological calculations of the Hebrew alphabet. It is symbolic of wickedness as well as higher consciousness.

Resteem

Great teaching @hebrew, Alef - Beyt actually reminds me of English Aleph-Bet.

The another one that comes in my mind is NUN, NUN is the equivalent of the letter N in the English Aleph-Bet. The NUN is the NINE/9. Perhaps N is the key = Noon +ennead?
