The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 42, Post #5

in hebrew •  last year

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 42:26-30

We saw the brothers being told to leave Mitsraim (Egypt) last week. Now they are 'en route' to their father Jacob's house. The boys stop of to get some sleep. Then they open up their sacks of grain to see that their Keseph (money) had been put back in the bags of grain. Of course, they blame God for it because now they are in trouble.

We will cut off this post with the boys telling their father all about their trip and their strange luck. Jacob (Israel) bought their story when they told him that Joseph was eaten by an animal, so I do not think he lends to much credence to anything they say.

Then they loaded their donkeys with their grain and departed. And as one of them opened his sack to give his donkey fodder at the lodging place, he saw his money in the mouth of his sack. He said to his brothers, "My money has been put back; here it is in the mouth of my sack!" At this their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling to one another, saying, "What is this that God has done to us?"

When they came to Jacob their father in the land of Canaan, they told him all that had happened to them, saying, "The man, the lord of the land, spoke roughly to us and took us to be spies of the land.
