The Path

There on the path, her shoes are worn
A lonely girl out on her own
She cries and begs to those who listen
She says her prayers her soul to wisen

There on the path, where few dare tread
That lonely girl will make her bed
Though cold and pained she will not falter
No one her resolve will change or alter

There on that path, in day and night
That lonely girl will walk with with head held high
And while her heart may ache with sorrow
She prays to soon see a new tomorrow

There on that path, where angels dance
That lonely girl will dream of her advance
Through the paths of mystery
And demonstrate to all her mastery

There on that path of secrets and shadows
She will dream of lovely meadows
Of endless sunshine in cloudless skies
And lovely birds sing chirping cries

There on that path she will be met
By she of the retinue of canine pets
Who lights the way with flaming torches
And thus makes sacred all that she touches

There on that path, where Hekate strolls
She will the ladies virtues there extoll
For here at last her destination
Though she be young and low of station

There on that path between night and day
The girl attempts the goddess to sway
For here desire is plain and true
She pines for no gold or wealth to accrue

There on that path, lonely no more
The girl only wishes to shut the door
For this bitter life had lost all meaning
Though her hearts true desire she was concealing

There on that path the goddess spoke
O young girl do me not provoke
And tears fell forth as a heart was breaking
She gave the goddess her very soul for the taking

There on that path she understood
Was there hope yet to be found
Among the race of men so much alone
Or was her journey truly done

There on the path she understood
The choice she’d made was never good
And so forgiveness she now prayed
And with a smile The goddess forgave

There on that path, where few dare walk
A lonely girl ran ever back
Toward a life she nearly sacrificed
By deep despair was she enticed

There on the path that was her life she would awaken
To worried eyes and cries of joy
A mother’s tears, a father’s relief
A girl cried forth from released grief

There on the path lit and welcoming
A girl would walk forever growing
Into the future with eyes wide open
With gratitude to her goddess Hekate
