Ivatans are the people of Batanes. Batanes is the group of islands in the northern part of Philippines. They are ethnolinguistic group with a language of their own. Despite that, Ivatans can also understand and speak Tagalog,Ilokano and English.

Ivatans are famous by their rock houses. Compared to the wood, bamboo, nipa huts of other tribes, Ivatans houses are made up of limestones with a roof of very thickcogon grass. It was built against the harm weather of Batanes. Batanes is also called the gateway of storms.
