ekiti state

The State known as Ekiti State is a state located in the Western Region of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was on the 1st of October in the year 1996 the time that Nigeria became a republic that it was declared a state and at the same time, five other states too. The regime then was in the Military and it was ruled under General Sani Abacha’s dictatorship. As it was among the newest formed states in Nigeria, it was carved out from a part of the then Ondo State Territory.

At the time it was created then, it had only 16 Local Government Areas and after a while, more where added to it still carved out from Ondo. It has the reputation in Nigeria by producing from its citizens, the highest number of Professors and if you go down to look at their various towns, you can even site an example from a town known as Okemesi which has more than 30 professors. You would also see that several pioneers in the Country are also citizens of the state.
Also, they made history as the First Professor of Architecture in the whole of Africa who is known as Professor Ekundayo Adeyinka Adeyemi is also from the state.
Prior to the British conquest, Ekiti State was an independent state and it can be acknowledged that it is among the many Yoruba states in Nigeria.
Now, speaking on its natural Resources, Ekiti land is endowed naturally with a lot of natural resources and it is potentially rich in mineral depositsSome of these minerals include granite, kaolinite, columbite, channockete, iron ore, barite, aquamine, gemstone, phosphate, limestone, and gold with the exception of some others not included. They can be found in large deposits in different towns, villages and other Local Government Areas.
The region is also blessed with lots of water resources, and this has developed into a variety of tourist attractions in the state which include the Ikogosi Warm Springs, Arinta Water Falls, Fajuyi Memorial Park and lots more.

The most developed and most popular is the Ikogosi tourist as its warm spring is a unique natural feature, and this has caused some supporting facilities to be developed in the center.
In the Agricultural sector, it is a very blessed land with cocoa which is the leading cash crop, timber, from its large forest resources, food crops which include yam, rice, maize and cassava and kolanuts with lots of fruits produce not excluded.
