You'll actually get 75% of whatever is there after a week. The rest goes to the curators. i.e. those who voted. It costs me nothing to vote, but I can only do that about 10 times each day. Most of it came from me as I have more Steem Power than Jumowa.
What happens is that a certain amount of Steem is generated each day on the blockchain and it is shared out in proportion to the votes each post and comment had. The Steem 'witnesses' do the processing and get paid some Steem for doing so. You need a fairly powerful PC to do that, but it's not as intensive as Bitcoin mining.
I need to read the 'blue paper' that explains the details, but the FAQ and welcome pages may help understand it.
