Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?
We've had a pair of these "set up shop" above our garden entrance this year, and I've never seen a bird like this before. On the underside the male is half red and half yellow, and reminds me of something tropical. I'm thinking it's some sort of tanager, but I have not really met any before, so I'm not sure. The pair is also rather elusive, so it took a couple of weeks to get some good video and photos.

Possibly a western tanager? They have the black wing feathers, although the ones I see around here in Oregon don't have quite as much red on the chest.

I think it is some sort of Tanager, but not a Scarlet Tanager... possibly a Summer Tanager, or maybe something else.

yeah, i thought Tanager right away, but could also be a juvenile or even the females plumage. Beautiful bird in any respect!

I've run across a couple of descriptions of scarlet tanagers with yellow bellies, but they have black wings.
I've also come across descriptions of northern cardinals that have a yellow bellied color morph, but this one's Crest is less distinct, so I don't know.
