The National Search and Rescue Agency (BNPP), formerly called Search and Rescue (English: search and rescue; SAR), is an activity and effort to find, help and save human lives that are lost or feared missing or face danger in disasters such as shipping, flights, and disasters. The term SAR has been used internationally, it is not surprising that it has become so global that it is no stranger to people in any part of the world, including Indonesia.
SAR operations are carried out not only in areas with heavy terrain such as the sea, forest, desert, but also carried out in urban areas. SAR operations should be carried out by individuals who have the skills and techniques not to endanger their own or the victim's relief team. SAR operations are carried out on flight disasters such as crashed aircraft, emergency landings and others, while in shipping disasters when ships sink, catch fire, crash, run aground and so on. Likewise, there is another accident such as fire, collapsed buildings, train accidents and others.
Against natural disasters, search and rescue operations are one of a series of cycles handling the emergency response to natural disasters. The cycle consists of prevention (mitigation), preparedness (preparedness), emergency response (response) and recovery (recovery), where SAR operations are part of emergency response actions.
