The Old Dog Reports: Another Visit to a Typical Ancient Grotto With Music by...... Surprise......Jimi Hendrix?

in hendrix •  7 years ago  (edited)

Was that the unmistakable sound of Jimmy Hendrix coming from deep inside the woods? Yes indeed it was and we were about to benefit big time!

Yesterday we went for a walk in the nature park (Parco Breggia) which features a gorge and is just 10 minutes from our home. Imagine our surprise because as we followed the sound of the music we found a grotto, Grotto Mulino,  (a typical pub/eatery found in Ticino where one eats simple local food) that we had never been to.

We decided to stop and have some typical grotto fare and enjoy a few tunes by this very talented band as they "serenaded" us with Jimi Hendrix tunes! Keep in mind that the music in a grotto is usually of the lute and accordion variety!

These Guys Rocked It Really Well! Have a Short Listen!

Three guys, a very simple set-up and the atmosphere of an outdoor Grotto! Fabulous!

The band ( I never did discover their name) playing "Hey Joe"!

Not quite the big stage that they may have dreamed of but we LOVED their performance! Notice the piece of cardboard to put his mic and effects pedal on! Keeps the gravel out of your sandals too!

A Typical Dish at a Pub With Atypical Music!

Beer, salami, formagini, pickles, pickled onions and bread. What more do you want?

All Too Soon we Had to Leave!

We had never planned to eat and listen to music. Just a short walk before meeting someone for another appointment and so we only got to hear a few tunes! However as @lellabird60 said: "sometimes the best days are not planned!"

What About You?

  • Have you seen any good cover bands lately?
  • When was your last spontaneous surprise?
  • What was it?

I hope that you enjoyed my Jimi Hendrix Experience!

Until next time,

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

Wow

I'm so glad you asked that question about our last spontaneous surprise.

This morning something really strange happened to me. I was preparing a cappuccino and used the dispenser to put three stevia tablets in my cup. I looked down and all three of them were standing on their edge!

It was so strange I photographed it so I could show my wife. She said she's never even had a single one land on its edge -- what do you think the odds of that are -- like maybe a zillion to one?

So I never imagined I would have a chance to share this with anyone else, this post made my day :-)

A day to remember indeed. This crusty pup says muchos dankas :-D

LOL

This is nice! :) i kinda missed my band! I remember playing when i was in college. Played drums. There was a time where we practiced until the morning came, we didnt even notice the time. We just played and played and played and played. The fun part about bands is that you just share what you think, play what you like and let the magic of music get into you. By the way, the name of our band was "Above The Line", we got disbanded because others had to work, others had a life of their own. We still play once in a while, we still hangout every now and the, but damn, i just miss those memories. :) LOL!

Spontaneous surprise? When I went to my cousins place, supposed to stay there for 3 days, but my 3 days became more than a month. He asked me if i want to go with him somewhere, i hesitated at first but after 2 mins of thinking, i just answered him, "Lets go! What the hell right?" After saying those words, we traveled to 5 different cities, ate different kinds of food and met different people, played music as well,. The experience was nice!

AS THE SAYING GOES, YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. :) make the most out of it. :)

Thanks a lot. UPVOTED!

In my country, good bands are rare but good local delicacies abound.

My suprise came last week when my Big bro took me to a local joint to enjoy an acient soup made of Goat Meat and spices

The last time i tasted that was when my dear mama was still alive 4 years, 2months, two weeks ago....We call it Pepper Soup in Nigeria

Sound great and I'm sure that you miss your mom! My mom passed away 8 months ago and I miss her every day!

My condolences sir!

I miss her day and night cos she passed on in her sleep the night i went to visit her in my home town next to my room. That guilt of maybe she was calling my name before she passed still eating me up from within.

The food and music must have been fabulous. I love spontaneous surprises. A similar thing happened to me yesterday in Charlottetown, PEI when my friend and I tried to go to a restaurant but it was closed so we decided to try a random place on Victoria Row. To our pleasant surprise there was an outdoor screening of a film called Confederation which presented Canadian history in an evocative way. The live jazz music before the film was also a treat!

Wow, good thing that the first place way closed! One day I'll make it to PEI!

Great post! I love music and I am fortunate to live with a drummer!

A fireman and a drummer! You really did hit the jack pot!!!!!

For sure!!

Good grotto's atmosphere are simply magical, and this can be understood by your post. Combining good local food with a good music may also help digestion :D Anyway we've to say that there's quite a lot of good bands around here!

Hey @airmatti! How is it going? Are you on vacation?

Hello everything fine! We came back yesterday! Did you prepared your luggage?

Wow, nice! I always love the unusual! Jimi Hendrix instead of the lute and accordion. Must have been an nice surprise and experience.

I like for instance those classical pieces that are more a cross over between classical and dance music (eg Canto Ostinato). Or one of the founders of Techno (Jeff Mills) who plays more and more in concert halls together with an complete orchestra. Unusual, but so cool!

Grotto, I guess a Cave, but I see more a house and woods, than a cave? :)

Spontaneous surprise? I call it syncronicity or just Szinkroncica (syncroncat), because I cannot pronounce the Latin phrase exactly.
It happens to me very often, in the form of strange encounters or simultaneous occurrences. I'm walking in the street, and I hear Santana - Smooth, not physically, bu in my mind. Then I sit in a car of my friend, he turns on the radio, and which music can we hear? Santana - Smooth! :))) I love it sooo much!

Thanks for the taste of Carlos. I've been a big fa of him since the 60's! I also love Rob Thomas so you pushed all the right buttons!

Where in the world is this beautiful little spot? I've been to hundreds of shows and this kind of intamit atmosphere is my absolute favorite.
I suppose my surprise has been coming back to my home after a year away to find that some of the plants in my neglected yard have survived. Now I get the task of beautifying them again, maybe I'll put on some Hendrix as I do.

That intimate little spot is in Ticino Which is in Southern Switzerland.

I must have been too young when I was in Switzerland to notice someplace like that. Thanks!

"When was your last spontaneous surprise?" I had a musical spontaneous surprise coming out of the metro stop in Prague. Too long of a story to have it make sense, but let's just say it was a very obscure song by a small group out of Nashville, Tennessee that had only recorded one record and I knew the group through a friend. For it to be playing on the street in Prague was quite a surprise and the odds were incalculable. Glad to be following the Old Dog!

That was a surprise to hear a song like that!

pretty cool :)

I love it when random things like that happen! they always seem better when its an unexpected surprise:)

I cant actually remember my last spontaneous surprise!, maybe i need to work less and play more.

Ya sure, take a few days off but don't get yourself fired!

I am self employed so could take of time without that worry:) The problem is I am skint and cant really afford to hehe..

I've been self employed my whole life and sometimes that makes it even harder to unplug!

It really does, I'm into eCommerce and so cant really turn of our website - might just drag the stock along so can pack and send anything that sells :)

enjoyed listening to the Band that was awesome to hear and you had some good delicious food huhh

We sure did! Thanks for coming along!

Hey, these guys sound pretty good! I love places with a good live music and good atmosphere.

Music can move us in so many ways and when you add the atmosphere and great food... WOWZA!

@kus-knee,
I could feel the experience you had there! That's amazing! Thanks for sharing this friend! Actually I have missed this fun in last 2-5 years. I was busy with my life goals and i have forgot the joy of my life :/
Thanks for remind it back!

Cheers~

Most of us are too busy and too stressed! It's good to step back and realize it.

Looks like fun!
Your living it up old dog. Inspiring many.
Bless~*~

Thanks for the visit Mighty Quinn you are doing such lovely things at the Garden.

I really appreciate your encouragement and support old dog!
I feel connected to you like ur an actual friend. Hard to find these days, even here on Steemit.
I will see you again soon!

Yes fun thinbgs are not always planned, in fact when not planned to turn out to be the best :)

Your probably right!

I always thought they did a fair cover...

Thanks for that @old-guy-photos!

Grande @kus-knee e @lellabird60!
Ottima musica... grande Jimi!
Parco della Breggia fantastico... conosco molto bene :-)
Bel posto il Grotto del Mulino!
Salutoni da Steemitri

Un "manniquen" che scrive in due lingue! Questo è veramente fantastico!

Quite the good cover band!! A nice change from lutes. That would have been a very good backdrop to a lunch!

Hey @meesterboom I'm sure that you would have loved it! Cheese, which I know that you make, and a nice talking guitar which you play! Wowzer!

Oh I know the guitar thing you mean!! Yes I think I would have loved it :0)

meep

Darling you have come back!!! Are you wearing the red dress?

meep

You are! Oh you certainly know how to get my pulse racing. Did you bring me my pills? I do need them in this heat.

The place looks nice, the music looks nice, the food looks good: what's better? The last time that I listened a cover band was a Bowie and Iggy Pop cover band of one of the friends of my daughter Noemi. It was great! ^_^

Thanks for the visit @silviabeneforti!

Are not those type of "surprises" the best? I find it funny and sad that are far too many people on this planet who would rather be disturbed by non sequitur of Hendrix in such a setting. Here's to enjoying the moments when they happen and sharing them with friends (even if we are far afield).

Cheers!

Thanks so much for your precious visit and comment!

Cool guys play. I do like the bands that play on the street.

Me too. I love to stop and watch street musicians!

That looked like a nice treat, finding entertainment you weren't expecting.

I live in a town that has national acts playing venues all summer, 2-3x/week. Asbury Park, NJ is a shore town that actually has too much going on in it. It's sometimes overwhelming, like there isn't enough time to hit all the shows. Last show we went to was Slightly Stoopid and they rocked the stone pony a few weeks ago.

"Slightly Stoopid" I love it!

Looks like great food and a great time accompanied by great music! My husband and I heard Bjorn Again, an Abba cover band when they were playing in a park near where we live. It was entirely serendipitous and we didn't hear the actual concert, just their rehearsal, which was actually more interesting! I love unexpected delights!

I love the name, Bjorn Again! Hearing the rehearsal is great too. My son and I had tickets to a concert in an ancient amphitheater and on the way there we heard a cover band rehearsing in the town about 2 km away from where we were heading. They were almost better than the act we paid to see!

I didn't, I don't like too much cover bands, i prefer to listen original music!
My surprises are on the woods where i love to walk! 😉

There are plenty of places to hike around here!

I know! I been few times in Switzerland! You're from there, right?
I'm your neighbour, I live in Valle d'Aosta-italy, the place is similar! 🙂

Oh yes !!! Jimi Darling!

I thought you'd approve!

Nice, lovely atmosphere <3 music is really good, thumbs up for these talented guys!

Good food good music what more do you need?. Good post!

Not much more except good company which I also had!

everything looks so natural man

Typically a Grotto is in the woods and in the shade!

Haha they do look and sound really awesome. And the vocalist seems to have a very strong voice. Though there's not much of him singing in this video but even a glimpse of his voice sounds just perfect for a rock band.

Yes too bad I didn't get to film more. I ran out of memory!! :(

Ahh that's sad :(

I haven't seen any good cover bands lately, but one of my sister's boyfriend plays with another guy and they mainly play their original music. During their shows which usually are in small bars they play a few cover songs! For some reason I absolutely love cover songs!

It's great to have that opportunity!

Yes it really is! Next time they play I will try and get a video of it!!

Très bon article qui est très bien fait de votre part. Merci Cordialement

Mercì beaucoup mon ami!

De rien

Great post supporting live music... I'm not really into cover bands myself, but here in Miami there are alot of live bands and venues for all genres.

Miami is Miami man! I live in the sticks so imagine my shock!

That was awesome! Looks like you all had enjoyed a lot.

That was a good read, Hendrix is the reason I started playing guitar when I turned 18! Your post has also inspired me to put a purple haze riff lesson into the Hendrix topic - as right now there are only 3 posts there, thanks!
