Jesus accused of heresy: But you say, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die. John 8:52

Just as for the children of Abraham according to the flesh the promise of God is the inheritance of the land, that is, Israel, the promise of God in the teachings of Jesus is the gift of eternal life, the life that once obtained cannot be lost, and for this it is eternal.
But this new life, the contemplative activity, was not understood by the enemies of Jesus, because of the hardness of their hearts. And the Gospel of John, which is also known as the gospel of mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) and eternal life, deals in depth with this important spiritual topic. The spiritual warfare of Jesus was very intense, a war that was essentially a battle between grace and sin.
The Gospel of John relates that Jesus went up to Jerusalem during the Feast of Tabernacles and that he taught in the temple because his hour had not yet come. While there, the Gospel relates that Jesus was accused of heresy because his enemies were seeking to kill him. Jesus' words were very uncomfortable and his wisdom was not well received in the most powerful social circles.
And the Gospel of John explains that it is because of the promise of this eternal life that Jesus told his disciples that they would not see death, a death not referring to the physical body but to the death of the soul. But this spiritual affirmation was perceived by the Pharisees and the doctors of the law as an heresy, that is, a teaching of error. This is why in one of the discussions that Jesus had in the temple, the unbelievers answered the divine teacher with these words when he taught about eternal life: "The people said, ´Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the prophets died, but you say, ´Anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!´" John 8:52.
The mystery of the contemplative or eternal life is a knowledge or perception of reality that only those who are touched by grace can understand, the invisible realities are not evident to everyone and Jesus knew it. Many arguments are absurd for those who live according to the flesh; only that life entered into by faith can free men from the slavery of lies, error, and sin, something that the enemies of Jesus rejected totally.
