What he did was so generous and so kind it is rare in today's world. This story was kept a secret for so long.

I love true stories especially the ones that are special. This is about as special as they come from someone who has a bigger heart than most. This story was never publicized and only came about from the people who benefited telling the story.

John Daly is a golfer and when this story happened he was just starting out and was by no means rich or well off. He was juggling accounts and paying debts. John has had his fair share of troubles mainly self inflicted through gambling and drinking. This though shows what kind of person he really is.

Only 25 years of age and was more worried about others and felt he needed to help.

In 1991 Daly was playing in the PGA tournament at Crooked Stick Golf Club outside Indianopolis. He was lucky to be playing as he only got his spot because Nick Price withdrew and he was the 9th alternate. The other 8 ahead of him on the list pulled out through exhaustion, injury and Nick Price was expecting the birth of his child. He was just starting out in his career and wasn't anybody yet. No one knew him and was a total outsider for the event. In all honesty it was a miracle for him to even be playing in this event.

A thunderstorm hit the tournament and sadly a man was killed in the parking lot after being hit by lightning. This hit home with Daly who went on to win the event and without telling anyone set up a fund for this guys two daughters.Karen who was 8 at the time and Emily who was 12 now had someone helping and looking out for them. Daly didn't want to stir bad memories so was reluctant to reach out initially but said it was a "no brainer". He eventually phoned the children's mother and explained the trust money and why. He just felt responsible for them now.

Daly didn't think twice and donated $30 000 into a trust fund for further education. for the two girls. The girls mother remarried and the new husband contacted Daly when the girls were graduating letting him know what he was responsible for. Karen went on to become a doctor and Emily a respiratory therapist.

It just goes to show you that things happen in a strange way and Daly was like a Guardian angel for this family. He didn't have to do it, but that is just him and it wasn't a publicity stunt which makes it more real. He met the girls for the first time after they graduated as he invited them to come and see him at a charity golf day.

One of a kind. Even though as a player who is starting his career in a strange way, he could've save the money or use it for personal use.

But the man is the real champion. Imagine the feeling of being able to help the two kids graduate in their desired profession. That's more than a PGA title.

I agree it is way more valuable than a PGA tour title what he did. Others could have done the same who were more established but they didn't.

Wow, that is a pretty great ending to a tragic story. That is great that he was able to help out like that. That 30k was probably a lot of money to him back then and probably worth even more by the time the trust matured.

A truly wonderful soul.

Indeed a very inspiring and encouraging story. That’s true happiness.

Mr. Daly could be feeling very satisfied with his life knowing that what he did years back then were not in vain. A life changing deed. Thumbs up.

Definitely life changing and he didn't think twice and most likely had forgotten about it until the call he received telling him about the graduations.

Mad as a brush Daley .

Wish there were more like him around. This is not unusual for Daly as I have heard of other things he has done for people he doesn't know.
