With Great Power comes Greater Responsibility

Well someone was going to grab this title. It better be me ๐Ÿ˜!!

My wife keeps saying that my posts related to steemit sounds Greek and Latin to the layman. So I will keep this as simple as possible.

Steemit community is in a celebratory mood. Because everyone just got an unexpected bonus with HF19! It is codenamed Equality. For folks who did not understand that, it's the reason why you are headed to the uptown restaurant instead of grabbing a pizza like everyday.

I think there were a bunch of really cool updates packed into this new version of steemit, namely vote impact and.... I guess that's pretty much it!

Seriously even steemitblog focussed only on describing the change to vote impact! Luckily Github gives more details.

While the vast majority are celebrating, a few skeptics doubt if this will make things any different than what they are currently.

  • Whale votes continue to be vital
  • Your rep and content are still important
  • The average post will continue to get neglected

All right; strike that last one! At least for the next couple of days, when the whole world is going gaga, I am sure all of us will witness some record breaking post rewards ๐Ÿ˜›

But why be responsible when you just hit the jackpot? Well, read this post title again...

complicated-meme.jpg

We got what most of us wanted - the minnows now get a bigger pay per vote; I think this was in reality a conspiracy by steemit to not pay that initial Steem Power delegated (the one you see in brackets in your wallet) ๐Ÿ˜œ However with each vote we shred ourselves a lot more than in the past. In case you did not know or notice, the more you up-voted content in steemit, the less reward you used to get.

There is a magical number of up-votes beyond which your vote will hardly matter. In the past it was 40, now it is 10. That does NOT necessarily mean you cannot vote, its just that it won't matter! There's obviously a nice graph somewhere, but then again, I promised to keep this post simple ๐Ÿ˜Ž

What you should take care immediately is:

  • Stop hitting the up-vote as if it was the Facebook like button
  • Start using the comments & leave a sensible remarks now and then a.k.a. civilised interactions
  • If you started getting the vote slider, use it extremely wisely. I, at one point, wanted to keep it always fixed at 100%! That's never going to happen now

The below two might not hold good for everyone. But it is better to exercise caution.

  • If you've signed up for Streemian Curation Trails
  • or you are part of any guilds, go reset them till you can assess the impact of this new change!
  • If you are on Steemvoter, do yourself a favor and edit the rules!

In case I have further confused you, just to clarify in simple terms:

It looks pretty rosy right now, but we might not be in good shape, if one week down the line everyone on steemit decided to cash-out and begin powering down at the same time! The value of Steem will tumble, so be cautious and remember the above points.

Please don't sway too much from the current path. It is going good so far...
