A change was checked in to GitHub earlier today to set the date of HF 19. The date is currently set to 11:00 AM EDT 06/20/17. Although this is subject to change, I think it is likely that this will end up being the hardfork date.
Here is a link to the pull request:

Reminder to vote for witnesses!
The Steem witnesses are the elected leaders of the community that power the blockchain. Everybody should learn about the Steem witnesses and vote on who they think is best. If you don't know much about witnesses or aren't sure who to vote for, you can check out this Witness Voting Guide. If you think @timcliff is doing a great job, please consider voting for him as witness! You can vote for witnesses here: https://steemit.com/~witnesses
thanks for the update Tim! Do you know how this may effect post payouts through that date?
Or are the changes only supposed to effect new posts created after the hard fork is implemented?

Updated info - @pfunk said they will be two payout mechanisms right after the HF - one for the posts that were created before the HF (current reward curve) and one for posts created after the HF (linear reward curve).

ah ok, thanks for the update on that as well though uh oh...
hopefully it won't lead to all the mess and confusion with payouts that happened after the last hard fork!

why is there so many hardforks but so little work on frontend?
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

The front-end is basically on hold as they work on mobile and communities.

That's not true at all. The front end is where the communities work is happening.

Ok no worries - will get back with several HF19 questions these days @sneak - thanks for replying and greetings Berlin.

Hi Sneak - thanks for the clarification. I may have misunderstood his point/question, but I am pretty sure he was getting at the lack of any new features (besides communities). I think the community has gotten used to it and at least stopped complaining (for the most part) but a lot of people give feedback that the front end side is missing a lot of bells and whistles, and the layout isn't the most attractive. The response that I generally give to that is that those types of things are on hold while Steemit works on higher priorities (i.e. mobile and communities).

Great question! A lot of the problems could be fixed by adding proper sorting features, favorites/lists and features like that to make it more user friendly. But it can never hurt to first focus on the technical foundation to make that absolutely solid before you make it more user friendly.
P.S.: i like your articles a lot :)

Hi Tim, thanks for all you do to keep us informed. Do you happen to know if hf19 will affect pending payouts on posts the way they were affected last time (the were reset to zero)?
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:
Submit
There will be some change in the payments around the hardfork time, and the way they are distributed will change based on the new rewards curve - but there will not be a reset to 0 rewards pool like we saw in the last HF.

Thank you very much. I was worried posts from yesterday or today would drop significantly after the HF. I just convinced a few people to post for the first time and was worried I had set them up for a pretty big "surprise".
I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer this.

What was meant to be a rapid, minor release has turned into a typical 3 month release cycle. My guess is they are aligning some other stuff with HF19 though.
Either way, about time! Eagerly looking forward to it. I'll also make the most of the next week as this will be the most influence I'll ever have :) All power to minnows in a week.

A lot of important stability bugfixes went in to this one, too. Running steemd at scale (the site has seen record traffic the last few weeks) has turned up a lot of minor things that needed addressing.

We are on AWS and can scale to 50x our current capacity in minutes, as required. We (in particular @justinw) spent asstons of time and effort in a full speed sprint to get to this point before a huge influx of users happened - and we were successful and ready for it.
I promise we'll be ready for all the future ones, too. :D

Thanks for the heads up. Took me a few times in the beginning to understand what hf and/or HF or hard fork meant.
As it relates to blockchain technology, a hard fork (or sometimes hardfork) is a radical change to the protocol that makes previously invalid blocks/transactions valid (or vice-versa), and as such requires all nodes or users to upgrade to the latest version of the protocol software.

I'd also like some actual data on what my payouts will be once the hardfork is implemented. I currently have no idea. Everybody's saying that this is great, though.

If voting patterns don't change, you'll make more on your low-paying posts and less on your high-paying posts. But voting patterns will probably change as the incentive structure changes, so we'll see.

It depends. The size of the pool isn't changing again. Just how it gets divided up. Some users will make more, and some users will make less.

I feel I will be on the losing side of things. But oh, well. If it makes Steemit a more fun place for the majority, then it's a good thing, since STEEM will be worth more in the future.
Hopefully.
I just remember the last hardfork.

As long as it spreads the payout better. It is better for new users. and new users are what is needed to make steemit what it should be!

Exactly! They should focus on the 99%, not the 1%. Right now almost everything is decided by money, not quality of content.
The best example is that posts with 300 votes that make $0.20 aren't ever shown in hot or trending, while posts that are either made by or voted on by whales with 70 votes make $300 and are all over the trending page (and is often mediocre content).
