Located in Anderson, Indiana on State Road 67 and County Road 150. Becky's Happy Mule Cafe is a hidden spot with excellent food. It is a hidden place as it is not on the beaten path.

The decor is charming. With Mules and horses decorating the place. So if you are ever in the area, you should check out this little charming hidden place.

All the good food eateries are the ones only the locals know about it seems.
You know, the ones off the beaten path.

When I lived in a small town there were only a few restaurants, plus a two fast food places. We (the locals) knew where to get the best open-faced roast beef sandwich and the BEST biscuits and sausage gravy.

One of the better places around here for Biscuits and Gravy. Homemade at Becky's every other place it is can gravy and frozen biscuits

The gravy at Hungryman's Friend Cafe is made from-scratch, and I believe that the biscuits are, too, so that makes at least two places in the area.

Your breakfast looked delicious, and the decor in this place is really unique. It's nice to still see a restaurant located in that building.

Hmmm off beaten= best foods!
I have been to some that from the outside looks like it is ready to fall down but the foods were best.

I didn't take photos of the outside today because there was some construction going on outside the place. Hence why it was kind of dead in there today, but it was great for me capturing some photos.

Pics of the food is always a great idea to showcase what you get!

OMG - Biscuits n gravy and hash browns... perfect breakfast! Love the plate, too. How fun!

Looks like a gem. Will have to keep it mind if we ever wander that far south. Thanks for the tip!

There are a few good places to eat around this way. But I think of my area from Muncie to Indy.

Gotcha! I'm originally from Ft. Wayne, but now am just south of Lake Michigan in Lake County. Haven't been in your neck of the woods for ages. Places like this are a good enough excuse for a roadtrip any day! We've got a place in southern Michigan that does some kick ass fried chicken AND there's a farmers market nearby (last time we checked). Love these dinky local spots!

@aunt-deb -- I love the food up your way!!!

Have you ever been to an ice cream parlor in New Buffalo called Oink's Dutch Treat? There are also a couple of my favorites that have closed with one being in Town Of Pines and the other in Michigan City. I hope you had the chance to try them before they closed: Pumps On 12 and Westy's M&M.

Nice to meet you, @ainsleyjo1952! Oink's sounds familiar. Haven't been there, but I'm sure I've driven by it. I remember Pumps on 12. Had forgotten it, 'til you reminded me just now! Sadly, I missed Westy's. The small diner / family restaurants have such a hard time making it these days. It's a shame, because the food is usually superior to anything you find at the fast-food joints.

Be sure to look for it the next time you're in New Buffalo. They have another location somewhere else, but I forgot just where.

Anderson is starting to have people coming in to open up new independently-owned restaurants to go with some that go way back with the oldest way-back ones being The Lemon Drop and The Toast Cafe. Both of those have been operating since the early 1950s. Not sure, but The Toast Cafe might have begun operating in the 1940s. Anyway, they have been around for as long as I can remember.

Will do!

Nice to hear y'all have some growth going on in your area. It's great to have choices. I'm betting the older establishments, having been around that long, are going to set a pretty high bar for the new-comers to meet.

Cammack Station is really good, it is in Cammack, Indiana small town the only thing there is a few houses, a church, a building with I don't know what is in it, and Cammack Station. Really great food there. It is located in an old converted gas station with all kinds of old gas pumps, and advertisement signs. And lots of antique tractors.

Ooooh, goodie - will add it to the list. Breakfast at Becky's and lunch or dinner at Cammack Station. Sounds like a plan. ;~D
