California's first installment of "high speed rail".

It only took 15 years and over 11 billion dollars to build this 1600 ft of rail-line... and the rail line isn't even planned to connect to the Bay Area or Los Angeles.

The excuse I hear is that "Well, it's really intended to create union jobs".

For what this thing is costing, please just give those "workers" and unions the cash and get us out of this colossal waste of resources.

Is there any cost for this that they believe is too high to be worth it?

We were sold this project at a cost of around $30B. Current estimate is over $100B. A better estimate, if it’s ever completed is in the hundreds of billions.

You really can’t think of a better way to spend hundreds of billions of dollars? Not schools, not medical care, not housing, not jobs programs, not better pay for teachers, not food assistance, not help for the mentally ill and homeless… this is how you would best spend hundreds of billions of dollars?
