That wave of low pressure off the coast is grazing Long Island with some rain this afternoon, mainly in Suffolk County out to the East End. Clouds are being stubborn and extend to the west over New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and the Hudson Valley as well as Southern New England so it seem we will be in clouds for the rest of the day. Temperatures are in the muggy mid to upper 70s. The rain won't amount to much as the heaviest rain is offshore so we should this pull out during this afternoon.
SATELLITE
Regional radar shows the wave offshore with the area of rain pulling away to the east. The local radars show the rain is mostly light though there is an imbedded heavier shower in that mix. To the west we are seeing some scattered thunderstorms that have developed and some heavy rains are being produced in some of those cells.
Wednesday the entire area is at risk for severe weather including Long Island. The Storm Prediction Center has Long Island at a marginal risk for severe weather which means there is a risk for isolated severe thunderstorms. Wednesday is going to be a very warm and humid day with sunshine into the afternoon before a line of thunderstorms approaches late in the afternoon and evening.
Thursday will be very warm and not quite as humid with some sunshine but another cold front will approach. There is an upper trough associated with this front that might enhance thunderstorms as it nears the coast. At the very least we have include the possibility of thunderstorms late Thursday. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s. This front ushers in dry air from Canada for Friday.
Friday we will see sunshine with a nice northwest breeze developing with highs 80 to 85 with a break in the humidity. The weekend looks very good with sunshine and low humidity Saturday and probably holding on for Sunday. Saturdays highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Sunday's highs will be 80 to 85.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
