Tarak Ridge (Peak at last)

Have you ever had this urge for mountain climbing? Wondering a getaway trip where you will feel calmness, joy and adventure? Well, this might give your next spot to put your gear and start challenging to hike up for the peak.

Great view, satisfaction, mesmerizing, refreshing, near the sky, these are the things that we felt on that day. It was very fulfilling to take the journey together with my friends to reach the peak where you can see its famous landmark, the Millennium Tree.

Located at Barangay Alas-asin Mariveles Bataan, Tarak Rigde, it will make hikers to feel primitive rhythm of nature. Roughly a four to five hours drives away from Metro Manila to its major jump off. The scenic view, relaxing atmosphere and it is also where one of the best views of the historical place where pearl harbor takes place (Corregidor Island).

Tarak Ridge was named after the trail discovery by Ayala Mountaineering Club Inc. (AMCI) combination of the words “tarik” which means steep and “tabak” or hunting knife. From its name we can have many ideas of what it offers to everyone who loves adventure. With its very steep trail yet it also has an exciting and challenging combination of local trail, roots, loose rocks, which everyone will surely love.

At first you need to register at Alas-asin barangay hall prior for mountain climbing. They also offer climbing guides that is not mandatory but recommended for first timers. Tarak Ridge has a very established trail route that prevents hikers to be lost. There will be network signal throughout the journey that will be helpful in case of emergency. Before taking the adventure always consider weather forecast since it can be very muddy.

Okay! Eat breakfast before going to hiking for you to have enough energy, don’t forget to bring water, proper gears, lightweight foods if you are just doing the day trip. Most of the people recommend at least two days enjoying the beauty of its nature. By doing this, you barely need to bring more stuff, trail foods, tent, changing clothes, jackets(sometimes windy), hiking shoes /caps, toiletries and first aid kits.

One of its campsites was “Papaya River” serves as resting station where all of hikers went through before resuming on trek. It was the only water source of this mountain never use soap in here. With its streams of clear potable water that flows throughout will surely bring refreshing feeling to continue the journey that would take an hour and a half assault the trek to reach the ridge and another twenty minutes to summit the peak.

The beauty of nature experience will be priceless.

Reaching the peak will be always remarkable, pleasure and challenging. Hiking is not an easy thing but if you have the passion, eagerness to do it you were always welcome to try and experienced like me. Mariveles is where I was born and raised, I’m proud to explore what Bataan can offer. I can say that Tarak Rigde was one of the best place worth trying for.
