The story of the survival of a mountain climber

in himalaya •  7 years ago

Sunday 28th January, one of the most difficult and dangerous rescue' operation has been acheived in mountaineering history, exactly in Nanga Parbat Mountain east Pakistan, where they have saved the French ascender Elizabeth Rivol whilst her Polish colleague sadly passed away!

Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest Mountain in the world at 8126 meters above sea level, the "killer Mountain" which is a part of Himalaya obtained its nickname because it witnessed so many ascenders' death due to its many snow slides.

Honestly, this incedent has a lot of lessons & wisdoms to learn.

Elizabeth tried three times to climb Nanga Parbat Mountain during winter with no succes while it was Tomik's seventh trial to reach the peak.

This time, both of them decided and prepared to mountaineer that they finally made it to the peak, but during their return, they have faced a strong storm, here Tomik's health start to fail down, he couldn't see anymore, his hands and feet start to get frozen (we are talking here about -60 degree plus wind speed over 40 kilometers), he actually begins to spitt blood out of his mouth.

Elizabeth knew that things are not okay and sent a rescue demand immediately, she tried all her bests to save him.

Unfortunately, the helicopter could not make it to where they are due to the bad weather conditions.

At the same time, representatives from Poland were out for a mission to ascend the peak of K2 (the second highest mountain in the world at 8611 meters), when they heard what's going on with Elizabeth and Tomik, four of them decided to go right away to Nanga Mountain and help using a helicopter which couldn't fly higher than 4800 meters, they have sent a note to Elizabeth who has been with Tomik at 7400 meters telling her that if they could make it to 6000 meters then they could definetly meet them there.

Here Elizabeth fought with all her power and been able to go down with Tomik at 7280 meters, at this point she decided to put a tent for Tomik and covered him very well to be able to continue her way down until she reached 6000 meters without to forget the difficult circumstances of this mountain especially by night.

47 kilo, 1.56 meters at the age of 37, the French Rivol is the first woman who made it to the peak of the killer mountain in the winter season.

Her friend Tomik passed away in the arm of the the Mountain who he fondly loved.

The Polish mission who have been able to rescue them will be honored by Poland once they finish mountaineering K2 that I am hoping they will be able to make it there.

I hope that you come up with a lesson from this incident. Few people understand or feel the love of mountaineering, they have asked Elizabeth in the hospital when she was in criticus status that she could even lose her hands and feet, whether she is still ready to go back mountaineering, her answer was a smile and a look in the eyes of her husband!
