Prodigy's Mural Removed After Repeated Acts of Vandalism 😠

in hiphop •  8 years ago

So I'm going about my day and saw this article on billboard.com.

We just had a steemit rap challenge hosted by @rondonson to pay homage to the late icon. The mural was created by Jeff Henriquez at the Urban Upbound building on 13th Street and 40th Avenue in Queensbridge, New York.

Seem that some people just can't respect the dead because it was defaced not once but twice.

Now the artist have decided to permanently remove the mural

Due to repeated vandalism of @prodigymobbdeep's tribute, the mural is now being removed. We will remember Prodigy with or without a mural though, his legacy will live on! #RIPProdigy

I can't even begin to explain how disappointed I am. I'm not sure of the motivation behind the person or persons that defaced this mural. It just shows that we have a long way to go. Hip-Hop may be somewhat universal but it is far from unified.

Yo there's an interview with NORE where he says one of the OGs in prison hated Prodigy because of the book he wrote. So he sent word to Queens to make sure the mural was vandalized. smh
