Today I was able to download the BET Music Award, and was well.. a clash. First it started with some kind of comedy that at times seemed childish and at times seems rouchy. But what was clearer is that there is a certain clash between the 90s hip hop scene, and the current artists.
The first presentation was from Mikos, another Future/Lil Wayne look-alike that sings/rhymes/mumbles and well doesn't say much shit. Seems is straight trap, and even though the camera showed a bunch of people dancing to it. It was hard for me to think they were being honest.
Then there was a somewhat horrible presentation by a Hispanic guitarist that sang with a forced voice trying to sound somewhat sexy but to me it sounded like scratching glass.
Finally there was another presentation by Trey Songs and although it started pretty good, then it turned into shit with a sex dungeon look that got me thinking what is this... Even BET gave up on beeping the coursing.
Then came Mary, Mary J Blige really killed it with some more classic RnB, with a chilled out laid back shit. Although I got to say some lyrics were a bit cliché-ish. I did like the black panther theme with some classic hiphop baseline. Now this is the NY sound that I grew up to.
Big Sean also had a presentation which to the level I was seen this is a step up. Detroit hip hop is actually tolerable for east coasters. The kid was able to actually spit some bars, and was able to come with some nice presentation with the whole huge LED screen, trying to make moves effects with his light shade mimicking his dances.
Khalid was a good performance, sort of like the Weekend, and Bilal but a bit more upbeat. I like the overall mood he put on the crowd and actually got me vibin' a bit.
Through out the show I felt that the whole show was having some Teleprompter issues and the presenters weren't able to correctly read it. Also felt that not very used to that automated scrolling carpet. For people that travel a lot and should be used to these, they weren't ready for this one.
Overall the show went from bad to good, so eventually was pretty good I have to say, some performances just made me forget some of the more southern crap at the bottom of the toilet. But hey maybe is just me getting too old for ignorant shit.
