Moravian Falls

For people of prayer Moravian Falls, North Carolina although fairly unknown is one of the most awesome and historic places you can visit in the States.

The Moravians were a group of Protestant refugees fleeing persecution in 1722 as a result of Jan Hus's beginning reformation in the 15th century. They ended up escaping from Bohemia (Modern day Czech Republic) to modern day Germany where they held a prayer movement 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for one hundred years and became the first group of Protestant missionaries to go out to the entire world.

Many Christians, particularly missionaries and ministers know that part of history, but what most don't know is that a group of Moravians came to the United States when it was newly formed (bringing a young John Wesley to the realization of grace that made him who we know him as today) and eventually ended up in North Carolina where they bought a large piece of land and formed another community similar to the one in Germany. They prayed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for several years.

The waterfall pictured here is why the place is called Moravian Falls, and was a very popular place for the Moravians to go spend time in prayer. Today people still go pray there, and there are several cabins and places for rent nearby, mostly with a theme of places of prayer. Also several ministries have founded their offices around the area.

It was an amazing and meaningful experience for myself and my family to visit this place, especially because I love church history, and it's right there in the U.S.A. for anyone to visit and experience!
