Almost all human civilizations are familiar with music, from pre-historic times to the present day. Starting from great civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, Greece, Persia, Rome, to civilization on the remote islands of the Pacific. As is the instinct for humans to love music and tone, even when the basic needs have not been fully fulfilled any man has started to make a tone.
At first the music was used as part of the rituals of ancient people's beliefs, in dances asking for rain, rituals before fighting and so on. In subsequent developments humans use music for a wider purpose, especially for entertainment. Today music has become an integral part of modern human life, it is transformed into a part of the great entertainment industry.
Each tribe in the archipelago also has its own music, as well as different musical instruments. One of them is angklung which is characteristic of Sundanese society. Although angklung can also be found in other areas, but it has become a characteristic of West Java. As in other ancient civilizations, in the beginning angklung was used Sundanese people in a ritual of trust is to attract the heart of the Goddess of Rice at the beginning of the growing season. This instrument is made of bamboo that grows wildly along the river in West Java.
