"Mother tongue" is a gift of almighty...!

21st February...! It is a red letter day in Bangladesh history. International mother language day which is popularly known as "Shaheed Dibos" . Rafiq, Shafiq, Jabbar, Salam, Barkat and many brave sons who sacrificed their lives for the cause of "Bangla language" In 1952 on this day.
The UNESCO was declared our Language day, 'Omor Ekushe February' as International Mother Language Day On November 17, 1999.

Our 'Martyrs Monument'('Shaheed Minar')

Every year on this day, people from all walks of life come to the 'Martyrs Monument'('Shaheed Minar' in bangla) and wearing black badges on their shoulders go to the barefooted with flowers to pay homage to the martyrs.
We sing the mournful song “Amar vaiyer rokte rangano...” . This is a national holiday in Bangladesh. We observe this day with Dignity and due Honour. On the occasion of this day the government, institutions and different organizations arrange different cultural functions to celebrate the day. Newspapers publish special supplements on this 21st february.
Actually this day is a source of inspiration for us. We are proud of the day and obviously the day possesses a great significance for the whole nation of the world.

Thank you for teaching me about this day. I did not know of it. I read that 43% of the estimated 6000 languages spoken in the world are endangered. Less than a hundred languages are used in the digital world.
I suppose that the reason I have never heard of this is that I live in an English speaking country, so it is not a concern here. tipuvote!
