The House on Sathorn ( W Hotel) Bangkok, Thailand.

The intersection of Sathorn Road and Narratiwat Road at Chong Nonsi is one of the busiest in Bangkok. Smack-bang in the centre of the CBD, skyscrapers vie for position on each of its corners. Here you will find both the tallest commercial 4-tower Empire Complex, and the new Mahanakorn Tower, the tallest building in Thailand, and it resembles a jenga set. However nestled among them all is "The House on Sathorn".

Built in 1889, this 128 year-old colonial mansion is a reminder of times past, surrounded by a sea of concrete and glass. For many years it was the Russian Embassy, and then more after that it lay abandoned. The house was lovingly restored and incorpated of the W Hotel complex which adjoins it, and is now Heritage listed to be preserved for future generations.

The House is home to "The Dining Room" restaurant which is listed as one of the 50 best restaurants in Asia. I am yet to dine here but it is on my to-do list. The interior has been lavishly decorated with period furniture and looks truly opulent. It would be an experience to enjoy a meal here for sure.

Such a cool house

yes, I'd love to own it :)

I always read publications that impressed me

I am so sure I was in this area and missed this!! Dammit great pictures thanks for sharing :)

Never been to Thailand before, but would like to visit one day. That picture of the house of sathorn surrounded by all those skyscrapers just looks so out of place, but it is good to see such an historic house hasn't been replaced by something modern the real estate value of that piece of land much be very expensive.i Guess on my budget I wouldn't be able to dine there

Oh nice share :)
