Here are some old photos from where I was born and raised and still live here... Palmer, Tennessee USA.
Palmer came about around 1918 or so when the coal mining company extended its railroad line. Palmer was a Boom Town due to the coal mines and had its own company store, railroad depot, housing for the foremans and the miners, and even had its own movie theater.
The company store was the only way for miners to use their pay to shop for what they need because they were paid in coal mining scrip instead of US Currency.
Palmer, now, is no longer a boom town. Last census it had a population of 700 to 900 I think it was. All of these buildings are gone, the mines are gone. We have a school, library, baseball field, volunteer fire department, a gas station and every now and then a restaurant will pop up before it quickly goes out of business. That is why I make my living selling online. It's still a good place to live overall, though, and the cost of living here is much lower than other parts of the United States.
