Below is an image of what the mission of Voyager 2 looks like. It is now in deep space traveling at over 38,000mph!

Voyager 2 has provided the only up close images of Uranus and Neptune that humans have ever seen. Voyager 2 was actually launched on August 20th 1977.

It was on this day in 1989 that Voyager passed over Neptune and was only 3000 miles from the top of the planet's atmosphere and during this time it spotted five new moons which it sent pictures back to and discovered 4 rings around the planet. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Nasa invited Chuck Berry to come to Nasa and play his song 'Johnny B. Goode' live on television. Chuck Berry's song was also one of the songs included on the Golden Disc attached to Voyager. The craft is now so far earth that it takes over 29 hours for the signal to reach earth and back to the craft.

This is the screen shot from the studio at Nasa to celebrate the Neptune images:

Nasa believes that Voyager 2 will lose total power and stop responding in 2025, almost 50 yrs after it's launch date! They think that the craft will continue on for the next 40,000 yrs. But who really knows.. none of us will be here in 40,000 yrs. =D
