We are already seeing the effects in the first of those few centuries.

Interesting - the scales of justice are balanced here. No doubt coal emissions gave people black lungs, killed all trees and fauna and made towns cesspools of disease. There is a town in Montana - Anaconda - who took nearly 100 years to recover from the emissions from its smoke stack.
