Estimated at the beginning of 312 BC, as the capital of Nabath, Petra is an archaeological site in Ma'an, Jordan. The site was never discovered by the western world until 1812, when Swiss traveler Johann Ludwig Burckhardt discovered it for the first time. Since 2007 Petra was named one of the seven wonders of the world.
Petra was founded six years before Christ. It is the capital of the Nabatean kingdom. It is King Aretas IV who built this unique and magical city. Although living in antiquity, the people of Petra proved to have had civilization and high knowledge. This can be seen from the relics of urban irrigation systems that already use hydraulic pump technology.

To support its inhabitants, there are tunnels and water chambers to supply clean water to the city. In addition, they are also very adept at making underground water tanks to collect clean water that can be used when they travel far. To retain the prosperity they have gained, they collect customs and taxes on local merchants or from outside who go in there.
Unfortunately, once the Romans overran Petra in 106 AD (after the Crusades), the city was slowly disappearing. Until then discovered by the Swiss explorer, Johan Burckhardt in 1812, who was then disguised as a Muslim. It is estimated that the city has been buried for more than 500 years.
