1943 : After suppressing Warsaw's Jewish revolt brutally, Nazi general Juergen Stroop reported that "the former Warsaw Jewish center no longer exists"

1929 : For the first time Hollywood holds an annual Academy Award ceremony, awarding the Oscar for best film and filmmaker

1916 : Sykes-Picot Agreement is done in secret by Britain and France; this agreement planned the division of the post-World War I Middle East region
