In the past army made forts , ROHTAS FORT is also one of them. The fortress was built during the reign of the pashtun king "Shar shah suri" between 1541 and 1548 in order to help subdue the rebellious tribes of the "pothohar" region of northern Punjab that were loyal to the mughal crown. The fort is one of the largest fort of subcontinent , and famous due to its large defensive walles.
It is the best part of their architecture , which was totally different from other nations.
The fort lies eight kilometers south of the GT ROAD. It is approximately 16 km NW of jehlem, and is near the city of Dina. The historic Shahrah-e-Azam road once passed adjacent to the outer northern wall of the fort
