MACEDONIAN ISSUE (facts you may don't know)

in history •  7 years ago  (edited)

Thanks to @liondani's post about Macedonia (https://steemit.com/greece/@liondani/the-greek-government-don-t-represent-any-more-the-majority-of-greeks-in-the-contrary-they-are-fascist-trying-to-hide-yesterday) , i'm taking the chance to write about the Macedonian Issue.

For those who follow me from my early days on steemit , you know I like history and in this post i'll try to represent some facts .

Historically , with the word Macedonia we refer to the Kingdom and the civilization of ancient Macedonians, who belong to the Hellenic Nation and they are a big chapter in Hellenic History and this is not under question.

FACTS:

Back in 1877-1878 there was a Russian - Turkish war. Turkey lost and was obliged to ask for a truce and sign a treaty with the conditions Russia was asking .
This treaty took place on March 3 in 1878 near Konstantinopolis in a region called St. Stefanos(the name of the treaty too).

TREATY CONDITIONS :

  • Russia instead of war reparation asked the region of Bessarabia, cities of Tulsa, Ardahan, Batum and Kars(forgive any spelling mistakes).
-The independent hegemonies of Montenegro , Serbia and Romania would become independent states.
-Some form of autonomy was given to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Armenia.
-Turkey was obliged to apply the Organic Law of 1868 for Crete island

-Α great autonomous hegemony of Bulgaria was established, extending from the Danube and the Black Sea to the Aegean sea. Keep this in mind.
This hegemony would include almost all Macedonian region except Thessaloniki and Halkidiki.
This Bulgarian Hegemony would be under the command of Russia as she liked an Aegean sea access. Of course the rest Big Forces of the time and especially Austria and England, opposed to this and with the treaty of Berlin which took place on June 1878 due t which Bulgaria was limited between the Danube and Aimos.

Russian leaders of the time also created the Bulgarian Exarchate in 1870 to oppose to Hellenic Orthodox church. After these events Bulgarian ethicists , created a geographical issue considering as their ,the regions that belonged to Thessaloniki , Monastiri and Kossovo areas until 1912, which had except Hellenic also majority of Slavian population according to them.
This was made in purpose to conclude more regions consisted from more Slavian population than Hellenic and Bulgarians started the massacres Of Hellenic population(who didn't want to become Exarchates) in 1903( and ended in 1908 with The Hellenes being victorious in a non proclaimed war). The extension of the borders by Bulgarians reached north inside Scopja(FYROM) region to serve their pursuits. On these borders Tito ''invented'' the ''Macedonian Nation'' in 1944.

I could write more but I 'm trying to be synoptic.

Till next post , take care !
