The Day Grand Canyon became National

in history •  7 years ago

Theodore Roosevelt 109 years ago

claimed the beautiful natural paradise called the "Grand Canyon" to become an official national monument. The region usually was owned by the Native Indians, a place many of us dreamed to live in during childhood. The Wild Wild West, the place of adventures, the place we wanted to live when becoming a adult.

Theodore Roosevelt sure believed the same. Since he visited the area - he came from New York - he wanted to protect this region, as he always wanted to secure the country's natural gifts incl. animals, fish and birds. At the end of the 19th century already thousands of tourists visited the region. When he became president of the US in 1901 he began to make his wishes come true. Making the Grand Canyon a national monument was realized on January 11, 1908. Thanks Theo!
