Holidays in medieval Ghent (Belgium)

Hi!

Did you ever see the Christmas market in the historical centre of Ghent (Belgium)? Well, here it is!

I shot this black/white picture about a week ago when I was Christmas shopping. It shows the central marketplace in Ghent, one of the most important cities of Flemish Belgium since medieval times.

In the background you can find the Saint-Nicolas church, that has 1 of the 3 historical towers of Ghent. The original building was constructed in 1100 AD and the income of the grain trade funded further construction.

The building is not a church anymore. But a flea- and antique market is held here, once every month. A nice place for such a market!

By the way, this is not the church were you can find the famous Ghent Alterpiece, although it's very nearby! Because the Christmas market you see here is in the exact middle of the medieval city: the Korenmarkt. Surrounding this marketplace you can find different churches, historical neighbourhoods and the Gravensteen castle.

So, you like this view? I know I do! If you've ever been to Ghent, let me know what you think about it. If not, ask your questions here. I'll be happy to be your guide.

Thanks for the read!
Rob
