A Piece of Dacian History at Sarmisegetuza Regia

in history •  6 years ago

Sarmisegetuza Regia - the capital of Dacians, their most important military, religious and political center. Hidden in mountains at a height of 1200 meters. Currently the place is quit, dominated by birds singing inducing a state of tranquility.

The name Sarmisegetuza Regia is said to have several origins and meanings including ‘City of warm river’, ‘Palace illuminating the world of life’, ‘Citadel built of palisades on a mountain peak’. The Regia contained in the name references the place of the king (rege). It was built during 108-110 and consistently destroyed by the romans and rebuilt. The constructions are remains of religious temples and the elements represent either fasting days in the year corresponding to the Easter and Christmas Fasting, and the Wednesdays and Fridays or references to bissextile years.
