John Lennon is shot by Mark David Chapman New York City. While entering his Manhattan apartment building was shot four times at close range with a .38-caliber revolver. Lennon died en-route to the hospital. Chapman who received an autograph from Lennon earlier, voluntarily remained at the scene until arrested.
