When, for some reason, the names of Nefertiti or Tutankamón come to our ears, or we hear of the Nile River, or reference is made of the Mummies, the Pyramids or the Pharaohs, surely, to our mind comes a hint of nostalgia for all that mixture of rich history, outstanding culture and unique mystery that envelops the magical civilization of the Egyptian world.
And precisely to this last point, the mystery that revolves around two of its most representative general icons, we refer to the Pharaohs and the Mummies, will be that we will devote ourselves essentially to the development of this post. However, before referring in a particular way to the mysterious and historical duo, we will first take a low flight through the history of Egypt in order to enter into context.
A little history
The civilization of Egypt developed on the banks of the Nile for almost two thousand years, being one of the most important civilizations of antiquity. From the geographical point of view, the Egyptian Empire was divided into two highly differentiated zones. The Upper Egypt, located to the South of the identified, this sector of the empire, with a Red Crown. On the other hand, the Lower Egypt that was located to the North of the State and was identified with a White Crown When Egypt achieved unification, it was identified with a crown that wore both red and white. The history of Egypt begins around 3150 BC and ends around 31 BC, when the Roman troops under Octavian defeat the troops of Mark Antony, Cleopatra's mistress last of the Pharaohs of remembered Egyptian empire.
The undisputed power that reached the Egyptian Empire, which lasted for almost two thousand years, was mainly due to the advantages offered by the Nile River because it guaranteed to that State an agricultural activity, in an immense area of land, with permanent advantages of production on their opponents which allowed them to diversify their efforts beyond the agricultural aspect. Thus, the Egyptians, by the facilities provided by their developed agricultural system characterized by the effective channeling of the waters of the Nile, could devote much of their time to cultural development and the strict preparation of their armies.
Well friends made this very small, and low, count by the interesting history of the Egyptian Empire, let's go to the mysterious world of the Farons and the Mummies.
Pharaohs
The Pharaohs were the highest authority of the Egyptian State, they concentrated all the power of the Empire and justified their authority in the divine origin of it. The most outstanding Pharaohs of the Ancient Empire (3100 -2700 BC), were Zoser, who owes the construction of the pyramid of Saqqara, also stood out the Cheops, Khafre and Mikerinos, very famous, in the same way, for the grandiosity of its funerary monuments (pyramids).
In regard to the New Kingdom (1500-1069 BC), the name of Ramses II, among others, resonates, who ruled for 66 years and was recognized for his fondness for battles and the construction of huge temples, for those hobbies He was called The Warrior King, as well as King Builder.
Two other Pharaohs of great importance within the siginficó The New Empire, were Tutankhamun and the most beautiful, and beautiful, Cleopatra. The importance of the first one, for the history, resides in the fact that his tomb was the first discovered in an intact way being some of the main archaeological finds of the last century. As for Cleopatra, as well as being beautiful, she was the youngest Queen of the Egyptian Empire and it was in her hands that the Egyptian Empire was terminated after Octavius, the Roman Emperor, took command of Egypt after defeating the Marcus Antonius who led the Egyptian army and also was the lover of Cleopatra.
The mummies
For the Egyptians to prepare themselves for the life of the afterlife was even more important than the earthly life itself, which was generally shorter, it is believed that on average the Egyptians did not live more than 60 years.
Convinced that the life in the other world was very significant that the earthly life the Egyptians practiced the art of mummification that consisted in the embalming of the body that was also covered in fabrics before being taken to the coffin. All that ritual was to guarantee full life in the hereafter. The mummies were also accompanied to a large extent by their convened belongings that surely all those provisions and riches, if that were the case, would need the mummified in the afterlife to enjoy quiet and power in the most there.
In this sense, the Pharaohs who all had it, and all could, in the Egyptian State prepared his burial accompanied by any amount of jewels and belongings of any kind that would guarantee them the same power in the extra-territorial life enjoyed in the earthly existence.
The legend
It is believed that mummification was invented, according to a legend, in primitive Egypt. Legend has it that Seth, brother of Osisris, killed him and scattered his remains for each extreme point of Egypt. Osiris, wife of Isis, was an adnegada and amorasa woman who did everything to recover husband and to know him dead and broken pieces crossed all Egypt uniting every part of the body of her husband. Osiris having the parts of her beloved husband Isis embalmed him, covered in linen fabrics what magically revived her husband, with whom he later made love and procreated a son, which would lead by name Horus.
Thus, it is said that one of the most important rituals of the spiritual life of the great, mysterious and enigmatic Egypt is born.
