The Mexican archaeologist suggested that Spanish colonists changed the name of the ancient city of "Teohuacan", meaning "Sun City", to "Teotihuacan", meaning "City of the Gods".

It was claimed in Mexico that the original name of the ancient city of Teotihuacan, belonging to the Aztecs, was changed by the Spanish colonists from the pre-Christopher Columbian civilizations.

The archaeologist Veronica Ortega from the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico suggested that Spanish colonists occupying the Aztec cities at the beginning of the 16th century changed the original name "Teohuacan", which means "Sun City", to "Teotihuacan", meaning "City of Gods".
