Chainmail - my best thing to do in the evening

Welcome!

Today I come to you with a rather interesting thing because for some time I started to twist the metal rings, and then combine them into longer chains. In simpler way , I started to create my own, not an exact copy of the European type of chainmail.

Speaking of styles, it should also be mentioned that there were also other styles then only European. The differences in these styles can be seen in the way the wheels are combined to each other, their diameter, the form of the final chainmail and many other features.

The style that I've choosen, European, is characterized by simplicity of creation, ease of repairs and high durability.
It was used by Romans, Crusaders and most European countries and tribes.
Especially Crusaders valued chainmail for their breathability. Why? The answer is simple. HEAT!
It's best to present it on an example. You know that if you put a steel plate on the sun it warm up very quickly, and now imagine that you have entire armor made with it and you still have to fight on the desert with temperature around 35-45 degrees Celsius... Not so good.
This problem was solved by the mail which despite not offering such protection against bullets as the armor plate, it was doing well in defense against cuts and most importantly it gave freedom of movement, it did not heat up like a steel plate and was airy.
You can't see it on the image, but the wheels were additionally flattened on the ends and riveted or fused.

In addition to the type which I have chosen, there is also a Japanese type of chinmail. As you can see, it is even visually lighter. In practice, it is the same.
The mail was supposed to be used mainly to protect against katana type swords and their variations. Unlike the European mail, this one put on as little weight as possible. Everything so that the owner of the chainmail can easily move around the battlefield without unnecessary burden.

I think that for enthusiasts such as myself, the opportunity to make yourself a chainmail hood or a tunic is simply not to be rejected.

At the end, you have here an intresting photo of a king's chainmail.

PS. I will show you my own part of chainmail in the future. When it get a little bigger. :P
