Why is alexander the great remembered?

in history •  7 years ago

Alexander the Great (356-323 BCE) was king of the Macedonians and is remembered as one of the greatest generals in history. He conquered the Persians Empire, which stretched from the Mediterranean Sea to India and formed much of what was then considered the civilized world. Alexander's conquests furthered the spread of Greek ideas and customs in western Asia and Egypt. According to one story, as a young boy Alexander tamed the great horse Busephalus, which was said to be too spirited and wild to control. This magnificient steed later carried Alexander into battle at Issus in 333 BCE. Alexander built a city and named it Bucephala after his horse.
