It's not commonly understood that homo neanderthalensis was a fully human species: not subhuman or human like, but actually human, just like you and me.

That's why homo sapiens were able to mate and have viable offspring with them, to the extent that most humans alive today - with the primary exception being Sub-Saharan Africans - have small amounts of Neanderthal DNA.

Yes, you have a Neanderthal ancestor. And if they lived in the right place, they may have eaten cooked crab.
