ANZAC Day, Orders, Crosses and Medals, part 1

ANZAC Day Medals

When you attend one of the services on ANZAC Day, 25th April, you will notice that a lot of the old timers are wearing a variety of Medals, predominantly on their Left Breast, [indicating that they were awarded them].

Some of the younger people will also be wearing medals on their Right breast in a sign of remembrance of the original awardee of the Medal.

There are what you could see,

Part One are the rare Orders and very rare Gallantry Awards.
Part Two are the Gallantry and Bravery Awards
Part Three are the Campaign Stars and Medals, the most common.

WOW!!! I had no idea there were so many different medals. Also really incredible i had never known the Left breast was for people who were awarded the and the Right for people who are wearing them for others. So cool.

if you make an ANZAC parade tomorrow, have a look, the Australian medals, up to the end of WW2, were pretty much the same medal for the same thing.
Do try, it means a lot to us old guys shuffling down the street that the younger generations come to see and hear.
you will se mostly Part3 Stars and Medals.

This is the lead up to ANZAC day, so you know what you are looking at through those bleary eyes.

Blimey, I had no idea there were so many different medals floating around - and this is only part 1?

I would need to take a reference book along to look up each medal I saw someone wearing.

When you go to dawn parade, with your bleary eyes, [need another couple of coffees] this is to give you an idea of what you may see.
But Wait, There's More!

hehe, bleary eyes sounds about right

Been there, that coffee and rum after almost makes it worthwhile.
With practice you can march and sleep at the same time, just don't snore in the middle of the address though.

Arrrrr well, if you'd mentioned rum in the first place ... ;)

In the south, it may whisky, whatever it is it brightens the day.

whisky, you say? well now you've put me right off :D

Make it a BYO parade, they will look sideways at you when you ask for straight coffee at the end, but then you can have a sip and top it up until your bottle is empty, by then there is a Rosie grlow to the world.

Thanks for collating all these medals together. I’m dazzled and reminded how little I know about the different medals. :)

These are very rare, only the top brass get them, I am not supprised that you didnt know them.
