"In the yard of 1928!"

Once on a social network, I found amazing pictures of England. Later, trying to find out the source of priceless pictures, quite by accident, on www.oppps.ru I found out that these pictures appeared thanks to the National Geographic magazine, which in 1928 published a large report about England, attaching color photographs. It was a sensation! Red double-decker buses, English roses, a traditional red military uniform, in general the old good England in color. These pictures are lost on my numerous screws, but now they are found and I hasten to share this piece of British History.

"Allegory of Britain"

So, the year 1928. Not a simple time for the Kingdom. On the throne is King George V, His Majesty George V God of Grace of Great Britain, Ireland, and the British Dominions Overseas King, Defender of the Faith. But in 1914, after numerous uprisings, Ireland was given self-government, and in 1921 Ireland gained independence, as part of the kingdom there was only a piece called Northern Ireland. In connection with the First World War, the royal house had to abandon all titles of the German line and the very German name of the royal house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was replaced by Windsor. Since 1923, the country experienced a protracted economic crisis. There were strikes and strikes of miners and workers. For the first time the head of the government is Labor, it happened in 1926. After the events that took place in the Russian Empire, in the harsh conditions of the financial and political crisis in the country, in the conditions of the "half-ruin" after the First World War ... King George was very difficult.

The world was changing rapidly. Young people's views were level, women demanded equality with men, and it was in 1928 in Britain that an electoral reform took place that equalized women and men in electoral rights.

In 1928, Britain takes part in the Winter Olympic Games in Switzerland, St. Moritz and takes 8th place in terms of the number of medals, or rather the athlete David Nortesk brings the bronze medal in the skeleton (sled) to the country.

In 1928, for the first time in the history of football, and it was in Britain, in times of crisis, notice the transfer of a player from one club to another paying 10,000 pounds sterling, the player moves from Bolton Wanderers to Arsenal.

In monetary circulation, guinea, sovereign, crown, half crowns, shilling are still present ... Money, of course, with the image of King George V.

The "Sovereign" 1925

Since 1928, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. The Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland ceased to be the largest in the world, "where the sun never sets." Britain experienced a fascist boom of 60-70, a sexual revolution, an emigration wave and the interweaving of its culture with the colonial. Since 1928, Britain has been drowned first by post-war ruins and poverty, now choked by emigrants, but steadfastly does not lose its manners, conducts the Olympic Games, enjoys horse racing and hunting, loves tea, even if not strictly 5 o'clock. Britain is changing rapidly, but remains faithful to traditions. And so far in London among the dabledecers of cosmic appearance, one can find an old bus. From red telephone booths you can still call. The Royal Mail is loyal to the red mailboxes ...
