Pan Am Flight 103 explosion on 21st December, 1988

It was 21st December, 1988. Pan Am Flight 103 took off from Heathrow airport in London for New York City. The flight was carrying citizens from twenty-one different countries.  

At 7:19 p.m. (local time), while the flight was flying at 31000 feet above Lockerbie, Scotland, their radar screens stopped showing any data. Unfortunately an explosion occurred and the burning debris of Pan Am Flight 103 started to fall on Lockerbie, Scotland. People in Lockerbie saw the falling debris with liquid fire from the sky. 

Nobody knew that a bomb was installed on the plane which caused the explosion occurred 54 minutes after the flight left Heathrow airport. The debris of the plane spread on the ground and covered a large area.

A police officer later said that:

Had this horrible event happened during daylight hours, I would think ninety percent of the population of Lockerbie would have been in a mental institution.
