The San Isidro McDonald's Massacre was an incident on Wednesday, July 18, 1984, at a McDonald's restaurant located in San Ysidro, San Diego, California, the shooting caused 22 deaths (including the perpetrator James Oliver Huberty) and Caused injury to another 19 people.

James Oliver Huberty was born in Canton, Ohio on October 11, 1942. When he was three years old he became ill with Poliomyelitis and although his recovery was progressive, the disease caused him permanent difficulties walking. In the 50's his father bought a farm in the Dutch Community of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania. Huberty's mother refused to live in this community and soon left her family to preach within the Southern Baptist Convention. His abandonment left a profound effect on young James, who became sullen and withdrawn.

In 1962, Huberty was enrolled in the Jesuit community college, where he studied and obtained a degree in sociology. He later received an embalming license at the Pittsburgh Institute of Funeral Science in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During his stay in this school he met his wife Etna, whom he married in 1965 and had two daughters - Zelia and Cassandra. The Huberty family settled in Massillon, Ohio, where James worked as a funeral director at Don Williams Funeral Home. In 1971, the Huberty family was forced to move to Canton, after their house in Massillon was set ablaze.

While living in Canton, Huberty found work as a welder for the Metallurgical Union Inc. Huberty and his wife Etna had a history of violent behavior. At a birthday party for a neighbor's daughter, Etna instructed her daughter Zelia to beat her classmates. In an altercation related to the mother of the boy, Etna threatened to the woman with a pistol caliber 9 mm; And despite her arrest, the police in Canton were unable to confiscate the gun. Some time later James shot his German Shepherd in the head when a neighbor complained that the dog had damaged his car.
