Mueeza's story

Told in a story, Prophet Muhammad SAW has a cat named Mueeza. One day, when the prophet was about to take his robe, he found Mueeza sleeping peacefully on his cloak. Not wanting to disturb his beloved animal, the prophet cuts the slits of the arm that Mueeza slept from his cloak. When the Prophet returned home, Muezza woke up and ducked prostrate to his master. In return, the prophet expressed his affection by caressing gently to the tiny body of the cat 3 times.

In other activities, whenever the Prophet receives a guest in his house, the prophet always holds Mueeza and puts his finger on it. One of Mueeza's favorite prophetic qualities is that he always meows when he hears the call to prayer, and as if his voice sounds like following the call to prayer.

To his companions, the prophet advised to love the pet cat, like loving his own family.

The punishment for those who hurt this cute animal is very serious, in a hadith of al-Bukhari, narrated about a woman who never feeds her cat, nor does she release her cat to feed herself, the Prophet also explains that the punishment for this woman is torture hell.

Not only the prophet, the wife of the Prophet himself, Aisha bint Abu Bakr Ash Shiddiq was very fond of the cat, and felt very lost when left by the cat. A friend who is also an expert on hadith, Abdurrahman bin Sakhr Al Azdi given the nickname Abu Hurairah (father of male cats), because his penchant in caring for and maintaining various cats in his house.

The Respect of the Islamic Figures of Cats after the Prophet's death

In a book entitled Cats of Cairo described in the time of the Mamluk dynasty, baybars al-zahir, a sultan who was also a front-line hero in the crusade purposely built special gardens for cats and provided various kinds of food therein.

This tradition has become a custom in many major cities of Islamic countries. Until now, from damascus, istanbul to kairo, still we can see the cats that roam the corner of the old mosque with a variety of food provided by the locals.

The Influence of Cats In Islamic Art

In the 13th century, as a manifestation of Islamic society awards, the likeness of cats was made as a carving of the caliph's rings, including porcelain, statue to currency. Even in the literary world, poets do not hesitate to make poems for their pet cats who have been instrumental in protecting their books from rat bites and other insects.

The Cat Story That Inspires the Sufis

A famous Sufi named ibn bashad who lived in the tenth century Hijriyah recalled, one day he and his companions were sitting relax unwinding on the roof of Cairo city mosque while enjoying dinner. When a cat passes by, Ibn Bashad gives a piece of meat to the cat, but soon the cat comes back again, after giving him the second piece, Ibn Bashad secretly follows the cat away, until at last he reaches the roof of a shabby house, And he found the cat was offering a piece of meat that Ibn Bashad gave to another cat who blinded both eyes. This incident deeply touched his heart until he became a Sufi until his death in 1067.

In addition, the Sufis also believe that the snoring of a cat's breath has the same rhythm as the dhikr of God's kalimah.

An Example Story from a Cat

One story that is quite mahsyur is about a pet cat that is trusted by a man, to keep his baby who was a baby when he went for a few moments. Like a soldier guarding his master, the cat is constantly on guard around the baby. Soon a dangerous snake rushed near the little baby. The cat swiftly attacked the snake to death with blood spilled.

In the afternoon when the man came home, he was surprised to see so much blood on his baby bed. His prejudice whispered, the cat had killed his beloved child! Needless to say, he took a knife and cut off the innocent cat's neck.

Soon, he was surprised to see his son awake, with the wreckage of a snake that had been torn behind his son's back. Seeing that, the man cries and regrets his actions after realizing that he has killed his pet cat who has bet his life to keep his son safe. This story becomes a reflection for the Islamic community in the Middle East not to deteriorate to anyone.

The Law of Killing the Cat

Did you know that the Holy Prophet also defended the cat?
'Abdullah bin' Umar, may Allah be pleased with him. That Rasulullah SAW, said:
A woman was tortured for locking a cat to death. Then the woman goes to hell for that, because when she locks her up she does not feed him and neither gives him a drink as he does not take it out for food from the soil insects. (Saheeh Muslim No.4160)

And in Islamic law, a Muslim is commanded not to harm or even kill a cat, based on a saheeh hadith narrated by Imam Muslim from the story of Abdullah ibn Umar and Abu Hurairah.

The Benefits of Cats in the World of Science

One of the famous books written by the early Muslim cendikia is the book of life al hayaawan that has become the inspiration for the development of the world of zoology today. One of the contents of medical science, many of the early Muslim doctors who make the cat as a medical therapy for bone healing, through a snoring sound equivalent to 50 hertz wave. The snoring becomes the optimal frequency in stimulating bone recovery.

Not only science, the western nation also brought many kinds of cats from the middle east, until finally the extinction of cats due to the myth of the magic tool in the west can be saved.
