It's impossible to take into account the social norms of the time, and judge it by our own ethics. You're talking about a man who was born before Christianity. How wise is to discuss ethical issues of that age with todays criterias? Thousands year from now, what do you think people gonna think about todays issues such as wars, politics, nationalism etc.. Its impossible to predict.

I'm hoping it doesn't take that long for people to realize that nationalism and war are a bad thing. I think it's perfectly fine to discuss ethical issues of that day to see where we started and how far we've come.

You dont understand what im saying, I'm not saying people will realise nationalism and war are bad things. I'm saying they won't even be able to understand todays concepts and there will be no point for them to make comments on todays acts through their perspective. And you are talking about ethical issues of the day. The issues are talking about were not even a issue at that time. It's like a criticizing a paleo-human for eating raw meat.

I agree with you, but I think it safe to say somebody as important as Aristotle to modern civilization you could forgive him for not being anti slavery . I don't think a lot of people , especially in the us would agree. Which is why i posted this, just to check the temp.
